Used the roto zip to trim the sides, that is a neat tool, not as bulky as a router. I didn't have a laminate trim bit and I wasn't going to be stopped so I just used a 1/2" roundover with a roller on it and just sunk it enough to keep the vertical cutting edge showing. Worked great.

Installed the lower front spar to put a cap on the end of the roof. I just glued and clamped it. Once it dries, I will tweak the position and glue and screw it to the sides. Those clamps hurt when they pop off and fly in your face while you are laying down too! haha :BE

I see that you had the foresight I lacked to cut a notch in each of the sides for the hatch. :applause:

I got around the problem by putting two layers of 1/4" masonite on the top.

heavy :(

Thanks for the close up pics of the roll under. I had a hard time visualizing that and avoided it. It looks too nice to avoid on my second build and I will do a cut and paste of yours. ok?

Thanks John! I am glad I could help you as much as you have helped me! You can thank Mike for his Benroy plans for that one! 'You could have notched after the walls were up, but it would be alot more work!

The front roll under was a big unknown for me too. all the way up until right when I did it! I know it needed to rol under but I didn't know where it would land, but I did know I didn't want to mess with notching it out for the trailer tongue, so I decided to lay it in place and cut it to where it stopped right when it touched the tongue. I then realized that I could glue the whole thing in place and then put that last spar in because I could just let the end of the roof dictate where to put it. It worked out well, I just need to seal the heck of the underside with roof tar, and I will feel very good about it.

Things have been slow, helping other friends with alot of stuff and working alot of OT, but it's all good.

I put two coats of CPES epoxy on the entire roof using a paint roller and when it dried enough, I put epoxy filler over all the screw holes, roof edges, and joints. Need to put 2-4 more coats of roller epoxy on the roof for me to feel comfortable, and then it will be aluminum time! On another note, while I was helping my sister move Saturday, I discovered a deep cycle marine battery in a battery box, that she let me have, so I might be 12V independent sooner than I thought!

Wow, That's looking great!! :applause: Not too long and you will be camping!

Look, I can see the reflection of the hatch in the side of your TD. :)

Mk

BTW, I purchased a Roto Zip "After" I built my TD. I borrowed a router to build, but I couldn't resist the Roto Zip on sale. Now I have to find a project to use it on. :D

I got my second order of CPES in today, so I will put on my final two coats on the masonite roof, and I found a local RV shop I want to see what kind of edge trim and counter top edge they have available on Wednesday. I am thinking I need to go with dead Soft with the curves of my profile.

Work will progress slowly for the next week or two, I found a new engine for my truck that I will be testing, cleaning and installing so I have to shift gears for a little bit and focus on the tow vehicle for a while. :vroom: I still check the board almost every day though!

Is it CPES you are looking for? If so, the Rot Doctor sells it via mail. Don't know of any other source.

Looking good

I have a question. I asked it on another thread but no one answered it. I am covering my whole td in aluminum. Do I still need to seal it with something like CPES?

If you coat the wooden structure with CPES, you are insuring against damage in case of leaks. If you think you will be leak free, you don't need CPES. I'm not that good, so I would use it.

I put 2 coats of epoxy on mine. I was concerned about condensation forming between the aluminum and the wood. It doesn't matter what it looks like, you are covering it with aluminum. Did I need it? I don't know. Besides, it's cheap insurance (well, relatively cheap).
