Sidewall contruction

Has anyone ever contructed the sidewalls completed before permanently mounting them to the trailer floor. When I say completed I mean wired, insulated, finished inside and outsidewall attached. I've never built one yet, but this site got me My thought is to build the 2 sides, front wall, galley wall and roof on the woodbench in the basement. Finish it and assemble in the driveway it the spring

Welcome to the forum wantaTD. I'm sure you could come up with some pre-fabrication but to include the exterior application whether it be aluminum skins, etc you would need to provide cleats to screw to. I make up my walls and then glue & screw the walls to the floor, bulkheads and spars. I wire the chassis separate from the teardrop assembly and wire it after it's assembled. Danny

Steve Frederick has an "inside out" system for prefabricating and assembling the major tear drop trailer components that should meet your goals. He sells a CD that documents his method of building a tear drop. I have one. Printed it out as use it for a reference in my "shop." It's very helpful. Well worth buying. He recently updated it with more photos and information on hatch building.

I've got Steve's shop manual, and agree with Esteban...it's probably very close to what you're wanting to do.

That's pretty much what I'm doing. The sides, the front bulkhead and rear bulkhead are finished and I'm working on the doors now. Once they are done, I will put it together. I hope it works!

This is what I will be doing too. The exterior finish will be aluminum, and I have even thought about applying that before the teardrop is assembled.

Check out the outback teardrop website. This is exactly what they did with their trailer. The entire body was assembled and nearly finished when they installed the floor.
