And the after.... Paint isn't a dead on match however it wasn't originally, still needs a new pump, the original is really pitted and rusted and not very pretty, waiting on that. Not bad for a 55 year old lantern. Doug

I took some of it apart, soaked the brass/copper parts in white vinegar and painted the frame with a pewter spray paint. Someone had hand painted the frame in silver many years ago and now it looks good. The spray paint is just a small hobby can and the frame really doesn't get that hot to scorch the paint. I polished the nickle fount with a buffing wheel on my lathe along with the brass gas cap. There's still some pits but for 59 years it looks great. It sputtered quite a lot when I tried to light it but eventually it stopped and now it burns nice. I've had a propane Coleman lantern for years now, but there is something to a nice shiny bitchin looking fount vs a green propane tank with the label and all. Kinda brings back some of the fun in camping, like pumping up the tank when the light dims. I will never go back to a white gas stove though, too dangerous from my experiences. The Camp Chef stove/oven suits me just fine. It's been fun cleaning up this old lantern and it will complement the teardrop very well. I may make it a box sometime. Thanks to this thread, I've had fun. ThanksDanny

Looks great Danny. That will be a nice addition to your trailer. I really prefer the nickle tank lantern over the painted ones. You going to build a box for it?

On another note...after 31 years of marriage I am considering divorcing my dear husband. You see, I have been a camper, hunter, outdoors-person all my life. When I met the hubby, he wasn't, but he did camp with me and the kids. When we married, my dad gave us a Coleman 3 burner stove and a Coleman lantern. We used them everytime we camped when the kids were younger. I have since had new stoves along the way. Since I have been reading these posts and looking at all the cool lanterns and stoves, I realized I haven't seen my old 3 burner in awhile. Here is where the divorce came to mind -- I emailed my husband (no longer referred to as 'dear') and asked if he's seen "my" stove and "my" lantern. Reply: "Oh, I threw those out about a year ago cause they didn't work anymore". I haven't answered him back because I am not sure which words I want to use to describe how really, really, really pi$$ed off I am.Thank you for letting me vent.
