You could take it out to Otay Mesa & torch it. You can't part it out in the back yard or the garage? Then you could rent a U-haul trailer to take it to the junk yard. Danny

Call around to your local junk yards/car salvage yards.
They will give you a (rough) quote over the phone as to what they will pay for your truck.

If it is a common model, it may be just scrap metal value.
If it is a model that they can sell the parts from for a good profit, they may quote you several hundred dollars.

Now you know if it has much interest to the general public...

A transmission for a 10 year old car from a salvage yard can sell for $800.00 plus...

Thanks Rob. I called the local auto recycler and they offered me $25 and a free tow (yippee!).
The best offer I've had so far is $1100 from a guy on Craigslist. I'll be happy with that if I don't get something better.

You can send it over to me, I've got a friend who uses one of those for mud boggin'. Of course it's got a 454 in it.
He really loves those things, probably has a motor he could stuff in it.

I wouldn't jump at the first offer, those things are pretty popular. Not sure why tho

One headlight assembly - $338.96
grill - $394.79
bumper -$298
fender - $242.52

don't underestimate what the parts are worth.

Being in Cali and not sure of he value ebay would be the way to sell.
If the body is good the value will surprise you.

I recently sold an 86 mazda b2000 with a blown engine, tranny had 245,000 miles on it. Body was in excellent shape as I had the dents pounded out and it painted about 5 years ago. for 850 bucks. I was tired of messing with it. I wouldnt have gotten close to that junking it. Took about 2 weeks on craigslist and multiple no shows to get it done, but it sold.

Thanks. CL has been treating me pretty well so far. My buddy is a Toyota service rep (out of state). He hooked me up with a guy who will replace the engine for about 3K, but that still means being without a ride for 2-3 weeks. Not worth the hassle, as I need my vehicle to visit my clients. Plus, if I'm gonna spend that kind of money, I want it to be on a new car that will last me another 10 care-free years.

your car insurance should cover a rental car for a period of time while it is in the shop getting repaired. May not pay for it completely, but it will subsidize it.

I would get it fixed for the 3K and turn around and sell it for 5K, then get a new ride. Still come out ahead of 1K selling it for parts.

Well, I put it on Craigslist and got my $1500 cash today. Thanks to everyone for their advice. I know I probably could have gotten it fixed for a few grand and a few weeks, but I need a car that is 100% reliable, and I don't have the time to deal with the repairs.
