Hatch Edge & Moulding Confusion

Hi everyone. I have now seen so many photos of the hatch edge and hinge.
Thus putting myself in a sort of confusion. So I need your guidance and assistance.

1st those of you who have the edge trim or moulding I see the moulding goes as 1 continuous section instead of slicing it in 2 by the hinge all the way down to the frame on some.

Can you folks help me on this please as right now I have an ugly empty space near the hinge. I also see that the hinge is only to the inner walls and not going over the exterior 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch.

My hatch sits on the side walls. And I see an addtional spar going down the interior wall of the galley. Which I dont have.

How badly did I mess up? One nice example of the hinge and edge moulding is in Lens photo. Done the way Id like it to be.

Do I need to purchase new moulding now in order to fix this ?

This has been bothering me for a longtime and Id sure like to fix this. The hatch does work ok but in the hinge area it doesnt look good.

In order to maybe help with my problem here are some pics of what it is at the moment, and Im not satisfied with it.





And below you can see that I have cut the edge moulding to continue from the hatch side.




The hatch does work nicely however its the exterior side that just doesnt appeal to me. I know Im being Finnicky but thats me.

Could anyone post photos of your rain diverters or end caps for the hinge ends? So my ol brain can get some ideas.

You're already using my hinge ... didn't I send you this pic a while back? ... with the previous 8 that showed how to get here?

(... yeah, old-style hinge ... but the concept/process is still the same ...!)

Or, are you trying to change horses in the middle of the stream, again ... ...?

1st off I succeeded with the cross beam or what you called it and installed the hinge as you stated and taught. So no changing horse in mid stream, as I dont want to get my boots wet..

The hinge has not been cut to a point of being done yet however I guess due to not wanting to destroy what I have so far.

The moulding that we have or are using is sooo much narrower that it doesnt go over the side as your moulding does. So therefore the question or being unsure of how to get it proper.

Until I get some more ideas in addition to what you have given. I dont want the sides to look like horse poo.

The hinge as I said works fine and is sturdy. So Im very glad about that. Now its to get the sides properly done.

Guess I could call it more of a cosmetic cleanup?

I wasn't trying to be a smart-a$$ (at least, no more than usual ... ...) or be critical of your new idea. The problem is, you've already built it to be one way, and it seems to me that if you wanted to change your galley edges to look like Len's, you're going to have some re-construction to do, including a whole new hatch lid ...

How long of a piece of Roof Edge Molding will you need to finish off the edges of your galley lid/hatch? Can't be more than 5', right? Easy enough to send over via USPS International ...
The Wide Lip RV Roof Edge Molding will bend around that tighter lower profile on you hatch, but you'll need to take it slowly and deliberately, and you may have to gently massage out a couple of waves (that, too, is easy). Even the standard RV Roof Edge Molding will work, but for my money, it doesn't "capture" the Hatch Seal enough and give enough overlap over the galley walls (but, it will work and still look good!)



If you are worried about the edge molding on the hatch lid matching or complimenting the edge molding on the rest of the trailer, then you might have to anneal some aluminum angle so the it will bend 'round that curve, install it, then cap that with some more of edge molding you've already used.

Maybe I'm missing something (wouldn't surprise me one bit ... ...), but it seems to me that unless you are willing to go to a lot more work, you're not going to be able to get to your new idea from where you are now ... ...

Thank You Kindly for the reply. No I wont redo anything. Ive been building too long.. Yikes even the wife says so and the boys. I happened to see Lens photo and I started asking myself a whole lot of questions as usual. You know me already. But at the same time I can laugh at myself too.

It looked so cool and nice that it made me ask.

Grant you hit the word I was looking for. It doesnt overlap as much as it should. But I notice that no water has gotten in as of yet there either.

I happen to have a sample piece from long ago in the beginning of the build of the moulding that Camp Inn uses as well and mine is just not as wide (at all).

Also I havent checked other widths available here either which I can do also. As there are other normal caravan mouldings here that are somewhat wider.

That end piece (aluminum cover) on the moulding in the photo is that something you sell or ? Thats somthing I could possibly use but I,ll get some photos of my galley sides and edges as soon as I can get into the shelter. Before anything.
