Hey Doug, I like the idea of a scaled down "Bread Loaf". I've been saving these for my next build.



My current build "Vintage Clone" is 5/6 scale of a 1953 Fleetwood trailer. I have 84" to work with at the garage door and ended up with a 5'4" x 22" door. Getting in is easy because the top is still over my 5'11" head. Getting out requires alittle memery not to hit my head.

For the radius on the roof of the "Bread Loaf", I have found that most are not a true radius. More like 9" up and 12" in. I have not done the scaled down math yet, but beleive I will end up with the same door.

Thanks for the info on the rise/run thing on the radius. That might just change up things. I spent a good portion of the day measuring up stuff and since I use Pencil Cad....burned up many erasers. I've found the correct Marmoleum for the flooring (that vintage looking thick wild splash pattern thing) , and already scored a 1940 stove for it as well as planning on the artillery wheels for it. I'd really like not to have to change design ideas now. I will have to break down and use a torsion axle....and I've always done springs. Doug

All the RV places will sell a door package complete with door, but won't sell hinges only. Doug

Depending upon where in NorCal you are, Doc's RV salvage in Sacramento might be a place to check for hinges only. That's where I got the windows I'm putting in my doors.

But if you've figured out how to modify Grant's already, that might be easier anyway.

I'm thinking torsion axle also, 10* up start me thinks.
That might help to get away from the drop floor.
Also... Check out 48Rob's repairingyesterdaystrailers.com for a TON of info. He has more photos and links and ideas and.....
So don't give up on the "Loaf". I know your build would be awsome and I will be able to steal some good stuff!

At any rate....what are your door heights and widths? Do you have dropped floors or not? What would you have done differently if anything and why?

My door measures 22" x 61" with a 10" dropped floor.

Got any of those drawings available for us to ooh and ahh over?

Gary....that's almost my profile...thinking 8 windows. I've already had speaks with Rob for hinges on doors, also been to Docs in Sac, Andrew for glass vs. cold molding ideas on corners, Cliff and Rainjer on Marmoleum flooring (an important detail), Dean on some slumping poly window ideas, and Grant has given me some door ideas also....found the stove on E-bay....it this a great forum or what? There is so much info out there and knowledgeable people to pick brains on, just ask and the world of ideas and suppliers are yours! ...gotta love it, I know I do! Sorry Steve....no drawings yet....at least that I'd put up! Thanks all! Doug.

Doug, It would be quite expensive but...
I had very little trouble backing my teardrop in your lower gravel parking spot last June, a great spot to build another pole shed. Make the standie on the shop floor with some of those real low car wheel dollies and get a bunch of friends to help fit it on the chassis (hooked to tow vehicle) at the top of your driveway. Hey I live far enough away to make this suggestion . Danny

It sorta is done Gary in my mind at least, I just gotta go through the motions on it now, yeah like that is the easy part!!! ....I wake up all the time in the middle of the night and think through small details, then realize how stupid or impossible they are....find a solution the next night. there are lots of details on this one with all the radii .

Danny got me some links and has me going on an idea on curved interior details, no square corners, colors are picked out, wheels, stove, flooring, trailer name/logo, taillights, looking for interior fabrics....etc....

It's sketched on paper, but I'm not happy with the overall "street appearance" of it all yet and what I can put on paper isn't necessarily what I'll build. I like to make it look presentable from the street view, since that's what everyone sees first....then cram in what I want. Haven't gotten my color/detail board together yet...working on that. Lots of other members have given me some great ideas and resources, thank you all for your ideas and thoughts.

Can't build there Danny...that's over the leach field, "crappy" location.... Doug

It must suck being tall...
If you want, you can store it in my shop.
If you're not gonna be able to get the door height you want, maybe you carry the dropped footwell over to the door...

That's the plan Dean....dropped footwell all the way over, flat floor on the entrance, no frame step up/down. I'll take you up on the storage thing....so what are you planning on moving out so I can get it it? The Scotty like Steves had a side that dropped down over the entrance and not on the other side. Len is modifying his to be a similar set up. He has a slight step on his. I figured that was a good way to go...can't see both sides at the same time anyway....My concern is dragging the step down even with the gussets and scrape bars on it. Probably not a real concern however. For me, it's all a combination of the wheels, set up on the torsion axle and over all height.

Also...I'll definitely be having Marti do an awing on this one...just wouldn't look correct without one. Doug

oh Doug, why do you put yourself in spots like this. You know what you want to build -- Build it and make it right.

You could -- Move -- Danny's idea -- Store it at Dean's -- Cut out your garage floor a couple feet and put back a new floor -- or learn how to get to the car pole barn.

You have to start making things easier on yourself
