I'm still in a pencil cad mode and was wondering, what all you dropped floor builders have for ground clearance to the lowest point on your dropped portion when level. Any help? Thanks in advance. Doug

My dropped floor was about 8" from the ground. I don't think I'd go much lower than that.

Another thought....
The drop is in Front of the axle.
My "pencil cad" for the next build wants the drop behind the axle. That's the Rub.
Current build has side skirts at 9&3/4" to 10" clearance at the tail depending on what is in the bed of the tow truck.
I drove down a drive that had gouge marks from other "low" trailers and just cleared. Scared Me!
This is a challenging build!

I always try to hit those on an angle when I see all the scrapes in them. Thanks for all the measurements guys! Doug

The Scotty I'm working on was 6" off the ground. I changed the axle and now its about 7 1/2".

There is an angle iron around the front of the box and it looks like it had been hit a few times.

Len, I looked at Steve E's Scotty the other day and it appears that the flat strap on the front of the dropdown is more of a skid bar than a structural thing, the structure is mostly in the gusset, definitely a good thing to incorporate into the frame. Doug

my drop down box is 8" from the ground. I measured a few vehicles some at the lowest point of the rear end and some at the frame rail and none were more than 8".although I have not put my trailer on the road yet I feel ok with that

At some point I dropped the ball on the front "dropdown". It was in the original plan but I ran outta bed frame angle iron and moved on.

I followed the height estabilished by the axle. 8 inches worked for my dropdown in-front, Behind and inbetween my axles

8" on "Gussets 101", with a skid plate gusset when I get back on that build someday.
