Have a teardrop or a trailer for sale? Need one? Post here...

Postby tearible » Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:35 pm

I'm curious what that would actually be worth...you know, in the real world. 8) I guess it's worth what someone's willing to pay for it, maybe $8k-$10k tops?

Right now it's lookin like a $401k, BEFORE the market crash. :?

Just about a year ago, Art Rimple(sp?) sold his beautifully restored CabinCar for a mere $6K, and I felt then that was a give-away price (hell, I even tried to get it, but couldn't come up with transportation funds)! Less than 6 months later, it showed up on the NorCal Craig's List for $12K ... don't know what happened to it after that.

IMHO (FWIW) ... $12K would be top dollar for this trailer in it's current condition ... and then, only to the right collector. But in today's market ... ... I know I wouldn't pay that much (especially considering what I could have had Art's for!), but then, I am a cheap SOB ... ;) ... and I'm no collector in any sense of the word.

And, like I said ... if this is the trailer and owner I think it is ... I'm not surprised ... more than a little shocked, yes ... ... but not surprised.

Something else that wouldn't surprise me is that the guy is sitting there on his beach-front villa, laughing his ass off at all of us and how he's got us all twisted up ... ...! Think about it ...

The trailer in the picture did belong to Art Rempel, but had been sold to Milton Newman when that picture was taken.
(Who showed it with a for sale sign...)

Not sure if Milton sold it again, or who the present owner is.

The one for sale on E bay is not the same trailer.

The E bay trailer is one of the early production models that used wood window frames.
They leaked... later models used rubber trim.

I emailed the guy and asked him the following question:

"Did you mean to post this for $4799.00? I heard that one in restored condition sold a couple of years ago for around $6000.00, Did you type in $47,999.00 by accident"?

He replied:

"None of the known owners of Cabin Cars agree that one sold for $6K. Where did you get your information and what documentation do you have? If there are more than 4 of these left on the planet, they are not aware of it. Thanks for your inquiry. "

Of course I have no documentation or names to give him, but I just thoght he should be called out on this.

If the guy would just throw in a brand new, fully loaded, Chevy Tahoe to pull it with, then it would be a pretty good deal.
