Update - Crooks caught - Thanks to forum member

Postby aggie79 » Tue Feb 17, 2009 7:49 pm

This afternoon my wife called me at work. Some jerk had broken into our house. :x The good news is that no one was hurt. The front door has to be replaced, but the rest of the house is okay.

Not much was taken, but most of what was stolen were my woodworking tools that I had acquired over about five years and stuff for our teardrop. Here's the list I've come up with so far:

PC biscuit joiner
PC brad nailer
PC pin nailer
Milwaukee framing nailer
Kreg master pocket hole kit
HF trim router
HF angle grinder
New in the box Toshiba 19" LCD TV that I had bought for the teardrop.

Thanks for letting me vent! I will be back.

Gig'em
Tom

Wow, that's terrible; I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm glad no one in your family was hurt. Tools can be replaced...not that that's much of a comfort!

What a nightmare.

I don't understand how people who steal and hurt others can live with themselves.

Sympathies on your loss of stuff and feeling of security. And I hope the perp(s) rot in a very hot place.

Sorry to hear, you might want to keep an eye on craigs list/e bay. They might show up there.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. :( From the sound of it, it was someone who needed quick cash and not a professional burglar. Let's hope your loss fed some needy children and not a dope habit. It's a sign of the times and desperate people. I hope the government's economic stimulus package does what it's supposed to and puts people back to work!

Tonight, on the news, the broadcaster said burglaries are up 44%. They showed a local house that had been burglarized this weekend. The burglars had taken everything out of the closets and cupboards and even pulled the mattresses off the beds. That's what 'professional' burglars do.

Take care of you and yours and lock up tight. Sometimes, burglars come back a second time, to take the new replacement items after you've bought 'em.

Ouch! I feel your pain. They can have anything, but not my tools! I hope you get a good insurance settlement, your tools back, or a sweet revenge :x

Thanks for the kind of thoughts. I've had a chance to take a few deep breaths. Originally, I thought my stepson walked in on them, but he came home after they left. Everyone is okay. That's the important thing.

The tools can be replaced. The ones they took were in a spare bedroom closet. For some reason, they didn't go into the garage. If they had, they could have gotten a bunch more.

The teardrop build must go on! I've got to be finished by LCG IV in October.

Sorry to hear it Tom. I hope they cut a finger off or something.

At least you and Joanne have something in common...Link
BTW, what are you doing storing tools in a spare bedroom closet. It's a little small in there for teardrop building

I totally feel you Tom... A few weeks after I broke it off with a psycho ex a couple years ago, my front door was kicked in too and they ransacked my entire house and took everything but my guitars which they left right by the front door. She was in my band so she knew my house.

I am concerned that someone came into your house and went to your spare bedroom closet and grabbed the tools there... If they didn't get your computer, TV, stereo, cameras and things that were easily accessible, you might really consider someone who would know they were there. That is how I knew it was my ex, she left the guitars... Think about when you were gone and who knew you were gone. I am glad everyone is ok there too.

Geesh, maybe it's time we all get an alarm system put in.

Everyone on the forum has at least 1 computer... an not that it's that expensive to replace... but what if you lose all your links, especially to the forum? :o :o :o

Sounds like some poor down on his luck fellow who just desperatly wants to build a teardrop.

:(

Hey wait I am out of work.

No I haven't been out of Indiana for 2 months :worship:

Seriously though.....

I went thru it once turned out to be a "friend" of my Daughters who needed some quick money. Makes you feel violated when it happens. I am real sorry.

Keep A List

Postby Franklin » Wed Feb 18, 2009 7:22 am

I know we should do this too, but make a list, an inventory, of what you have in the house and also your TD or trailer. When our pop-up was taken, the insurance man told us to list what was in the camper and that would be reimbursed for also - luckily it was not camping season and we didn't have that many items. Sadly, with the state of the economy, this kind of thing will probably get worse. I was shocked to learn that Kansas was a major player in the meth business according to a 2003 report and our city of 8,000 a "wholesale" connection. Never think any place is "safe" and always hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Cathy

Thomas, I had the same thoughts as you. They just kicked the front door in and came in and grabbed some things almost like they knew where they were going.

Mark, I keep some of my tools inside because I don't have room in the garage (can only use one bay). The tools I use on a regular basis - routers, drills/drivers, skill saws, jig saw, belt sander, etc. - are still in the garage, scattered.

As probably most, I didn't have pictures or inventory of serial #s. For some dumb reason, especially after being in construction for about 15 years, I didn't have any markings on my tools either.

Last night I thought I would begin the inventory of everything else, but found out that I need to add our digital camera to the list of items taken. As much as I don't like them, I may take a look at security system (alarm only, no monitoring) and/or a home brew cctv setup tied into our home network.
