I have four almost new aluminum wheels with tires from an import car that I no longer own. I was thinking about using two of them on my future Grumman 2 build.
The wheel is 16x7 with a -40mm offset. I've confirmed that the four bolt pattern works on a trailer hub. The tire is 205/45R16, about eight inches wide mounted.
My concern is with frame clearance and excessive rolling resistance. Any thoughts?
I went through the same issues with my teardrop build. Wide automotive wheels with an offset. It is nice to have about an inch and a half clearance between the frame and wheel, some have more some have less. This is just one of the many things you will worry about during the build process. Lots of choices to be made like building out over the frame since the Grumman 2 has internal wheel wells. It looks like a good build for a custom frame and torsion axle. With the light weight the rolling resistance isn't as much an issue as hydroplaning in the puddles.
