Thanks for the pics. Looks like it was a great time. It's been years since I camped in the snow...what fun!

I am sorry we missed this gathering.

Here's my photos.

Beautiful, if somewhat desolate!
Image

This is about half the wood that folks brought. Good thing we had more, the snow wasn't far off!
Image

It never got very warm during the first few days.
Image

Doug is showing off his mountain man skills by carving cedar cooking utensils with his ax. Pretty amazing!
Image

A view down the long valley. The road seems to go on forever.
Image

A nice hike turns cold and snowy.
Image

Once the snow started, it didn't know when to quit.
Image

Doug is getting ready to whip up biscuits, gravy and scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Image

Gotta scrape the ice and snow off the cooking table.
Image

George's oven worked just great for the biscuits.
Image

Ken showed off his snow man making skills with this miniature.
Image

Not a lot of snow, but a bit over an inch at this point.
Image

Isn't this the saddest picture you've ever seen? Steve just couldn't get warm.
Image

We headed out to see some sights in the area.
This is Stokes Castle. It must have been very impressive when it was built!
Image

Reminders of the area's mining history are all over.
Image

I'm guessing the sign means what it says....
Image

There's a number of hot springs in the area. It was too cold and windy to get in. (actually too cold to get back out!!)
Image

A long lost "loaf".
Image

The town was small, but it has the county courthouse.
Image

This old house trailer has seen better times.
Image

There were a few mineral shops and this antique shop in town.
Image

I look forward to the next Gathering at the Glyphs!

The trick is to dry off real fast once you exit the water when the air temperature is cold like that.

Grant,

We know that you were there in spirit! You were certainly in our thoughts all weekend. Like all things in life, you have to take care of first things first. Taking care of your back now will allow you to attend gatherings in the future. My thoughts and prayers to out for your full recovery.

Considering how much fun this event was (snow and all), I hope that we can have a Gathering at the Glyphs II.

Hi Rocky!

We sure would have enjoyed for you and Mel to be there! It's been a while since we've camped together. Glad to hear that you have a new job, sorry to hear about the vacation time. Knowing how much you like to travel it must make for some difficult decisions about vacations.

We should see if we can pick a holiday weekend and have a small gathering somewhere in the mountains around there.

Hugs to both of you!

Great Pics Steve!!!! Now about that pizza....it was good! Not like a good old traditional one though....but then I'm a Luddite...I won't order a fish taco either....I'm just stuck somewhere in time! For those of you that weren't there, Steve and I had a discussion concerning the appropriate order and types of toppings that a pizza should have. We both capitulated and ended up with a wonderful pizza.... 8) Doug

Yes, Joanne ...

... I was, indeed, "there in spirit" ... much preferring to be "there in body" ... but grateful that my body was even able to move ... ;) ...! Thank you, All, for your thoughts & prayers ... they're much appreciated ...! Considering what a grumpyass I can be, you might want to extend those thoughts & prayers to the Dr.s & nurses that'll have to put up with me before, during, and after the operation ... ... and let's not forget Lisa ... with what she's had to put up with, 24/7, she should qualify for sainthood ... :worship: ...!

Steve! Thanks for those pics, too! It warms my heart and touches me deeply that so many of you were/are able to experience and understand why that place has such a draw to me ... its vastness and desolation and isolation and the quietness is just so intriguing! My uncle was a hermit, so I guess a little bit of him rubbed off on me ... and I'm glad for it! I know Lisa doesn't care much at all for Nevada ... and I'll admit to finding a lot more places that are visually more appealing ... but, I just can't get enough of the more remote parts of that state ... and the Salt Flats of Utah, of course ... ...!

Considering how much fun this event was (snow and all), I hope that we can have a Gathering at the Glyphs II ... Joanne

Well, if I had my 'druthers ... and any of you are up for it ... I'd like to make Easter at the 'Glyphs an annual event ... whether we have 5 trailers or 50, I won't care. And I'm sure that next year Leah will be able to make it out to share her unique native spiritual guidance & inspiration ...! Of course, if anyone wants to go out for a Gathering, there, when the weather is a bit better (say, late September), we can do that, too, and call it the 'Glyphs, 2 ... only find the native Paiute word for "2" ... ...?

If you like the idea, give us a shout back, here!

Thanks, again, All! And, as always ...

CHEERS!
