Are you going to have one of those "Please take a number" thingies at LCG to give tours?? I'll be in line...... after I throw a tarp over mine to hide it. With all the new examples of prime craftsmanship showing up this year, I'll have to hide Itty-Bitty!

Yeah I am SOOO looking forward to the LCG gathering! Not a finer collection of teardrops anywhere! (except all the other gatherings ;) )

I got my windows from Big Woody today. On the whole they look and function great, and I am glad to get them BUT...

The box was smashed because there was not enough packing material. He wrapped 2 layers of newspaper around them and put card board over the window glass, and shoved a little bit of newspaper in the empty corners. The ends were not covered at all (after the newspaper ripped in the first 5 seconds that is) so the ends were practically sticking out of the box and are dented :x I can fix it though, but it will be time invested. There is a screw missing out of one of them too. These need to go in THIS weekend so I can't PAY for shipping them back, jack with communication, jack with waiting for two more, and hoping they are packed correctly. No thanks, I can make these work just fine.

The packing should have been WAY better considering he charged me $33 in shipping when UPS charged $14! I hate when people overcharge for shipping.

The price you pay for not using Grant so I won't gripe any more.

With that description of the packing, I'm surprised they got there in one piece.

Looking forward to seeing this one in person in October.

Gimme a shout if you need a hand one weekend, I'm not too far away

You're doing really very well, Thomas. The little things that you see or think aren't right are just that...minor. Most people won't notice and, if those things continue to bug you, you can update them later, when you have the time.

Look at it this way: Most people just sit on their duffs and wish for what you have. You're going to have what you want and you will know exactly how it was made and what you can do with it. You'll have a couple other things, too: Satisfaction and the Feeling of Accomplishment.

Thanks guys! I think I am learning this craftsmanship as I go! It's awesome! I had a slow day, about to put the final coat of poly on side 2 of both doors so that will be done so I can put the windows in tomorrow!

Yeah, I am not too worried about the little things these days Sharon, I see them fade away as I move on to the next section of work, and then I come back and I have to search around to even find whatever little mistake it was!

Bobby, I like doing things alone, kind of a Zen thing maybe, but if you ever wanted to swing by just to check it out let me know! I am actually in the Southern most part of Garland which is right next to Mesquite at Centerville and Duck Creek.

You know... I took Monday off because it is 4/27 which is a special number for me and I have had a 102 temperature all dang day! ! ! The last few times I took time off work to bust out some work on the tear, I have gotten sick.
Well, I cannot just sit around so I figured I would do some easy stuff and not mess up the windows! I got some trim for the inside profile headliner trim, as you can see it sits up in there all by itself without any glue pretty good except for a couple of spots:

I didn't get quarter round, I got something close to it, can't remember the name now, but it is the fake stuff, not real wood. I do not think real wood will make my front radius without more help than I am willing to give. This stuff sticks in there easily and is prefinished and is $2 ea.

So... before we start talking about a happy ending, it is not wood, so what do you use to bond? Clamping is not possible so I think about the PL Premium I have and I slop the black goo in the corner and I put the trim in place and in short order I see that clamping is going to be needed much longer than I am going to be able to do by hand as I can do with titebond. I tried the staple method earlier in testing mode, but I did not like the way it damaged it, so I decided predrill and tap some nails in. WHACK the dang thing snaps at the tightest radius, probably from the hammer, not from the arc. So I rip the whole piece out and spend the next 30 min and half a roll of blue towels wiping off the black stuff... I bought a replacement piece and now I have both pieces setting in place getting "used" to the shape while I contemplate how to attach them. They sit pretty good all by themselves as you can see from the pics. No big deal, that is for tomorrow. I bought liquid nails which I hate, so any other ideas are welcome.

Here is a second pic. I put in the speakers and the power outlet. It just looks pretty, nothing is hooked up. I am ready tomorrow to put the retro side lights, upper headliner, vent and AC trim in tomorrow unless I am feeling worse.

Don't look now, but your hatch is missing and some dude in a black pickup is drafting you.

Well, the doc wasn't sure of it was swine flu or just some kind of regular flu so he gave me some tamiflu and quarantined me from work for three days. I don't want to get anyone sick and I feel lousy any way.

Having a week off sure *sounds* like a dream come true but I didn't do a single thing today....

Yesterday I did manage to get out and cut the holes for my windows! I did not mount them permanently though yet, because I am thinking they might get in the way when I go to install the t-moulding if I need to lay them flat or something although it is hard resisting installing them. I guess I could use the saw horses like I am doing in the pic tho... hmmm...

Well, I am officially out of $$$ again but the only big purchases left are the door and hatch handles, and the remaining door and hatch aluminum trim and weatherstripping. In the meantime, there is still alot of little goodies to finish up! I REALLY want to use the cutouts for something since the surface is mostly finished. I am thinking a slide out cutting board and maybe a side table
