NEWBIE!! But I am going to pick up my first TD this weekend!

Postby dobbur23 » Mon Jun 01, 2009 12:23 pm

Greetings everyone from Central Alabama! My wife and I are about to embark on our first TD purchase and I am stoked about it. We love the outdoors and tent camp now along with hiking, climbing, kayaking, etc. We owned an 18 foot travel trailer about 3 years ago and just did not like it. It wasn't camping to us. We are thinking the td will give us more opportunity to pick up and go if we are short on time. We are actually heading to North Canton, Ohio this weekend to pick up our 6 wide Little Guy. (1600 miles roundtrip). We will be camping a couple of days on the way back home and breaking it in. I know people build these great little campers all the time but if you can't build it or repair it with duct tape, cable ties, bubble gum, or bailing wire I am out of luck. I am not the building type. I have been reading past post and I am really enjoying this site and all of you guys seem great. Lots of awesome tear drops for sure! Any pointers, advice, or recommendations are definitely welcome on any aspect of tead drop camping. You guys have a good one and hopefully we can talk soon.

:P Welcome to teardropping, sir! Your new six-wide will be teardrop luxury at it's finest, for sure... that's lot's-O-room to frolic. Hahaha...

Any pointers, advice, or recommendations are definitely welcome...

Your mention of "duct tape, cable ties, bubble gum, [and] bailing wire", leaves out another very useful implement: WD-40. Hee.

How's that saying go? "If it's supposed to move but doesn't, WD-40. If it moves and it's not supposed to, duct tape."

Again, welcome aboard... and we expect :snappy: of your tears' reception and of your trip home!

:vroom:

Best wishes for a safe return home and future trips!

Did you get the power vent? The fantastic vent option is good if your a two season camper(spring/ fall).

If your doing the sumer thing you may want to consider an A/C option? WE use a petcool in our 06 Little Guy Doublewide(6').

BTW we luv ours!

Good Luck!

Welcome aboard, always nice to see a new member that has already made the "big purchase". Enjoy your new toy, and get ready to beat off on-lookers at gas stations and rest stops, with a stick. Proudly show that new teardrop, who knows, you may be the reason that some stranger will sometime also become one of us............Hmmmm, I wonder if that works. (yep, I can guanantee you that it does)

Welcome to the madness...

Buying works just as well as building.

Have fun breaking it in!

Mike...

P.S. Take a few photos and share them with us! ;)
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Welcome to the forum! (and more importantly–to the lifestyle!)

Don't worry about not building your tear here. Although if you were to look waay way back, deep deep into the history and root structure of this forum and its founding members, you would see that it did start as a builders forum... mmmmm - maybe a hundred years ago or so? (Well at least before Al Gore)

But it's a big big tree now with a whole lot of branches! We all just love these little things called Teardrops and Tiny Travel Trailers. Enjoy your 6-wide... I know I sure do mine!

We will definitely post some pics as soon as we get some.(Photography is my wife's thing.)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone and we are definitely proud to be a part of the teardrop nation. I am really looking forward to the convenience of camping in a td. Like I said earlier the big travel trailer camping just didn't seem like camping and I think the teardrop will fill that gap perfectly. Glad all you talented builders are so kind hearted to us building impaired folks.
:)

To answer you question Pdbeta we did get the fantastic vent and the a/c. My wife was firm on the fact we have the a/c considering we live in Alabama. We really don't tent camp any in the summer because of the heat but we love to kayak so we are hoping the td with a/c will solve that problem and allow us to paddle more. I am glad to hear you are happy with your Little Guy.

I agree but don't tell her that! :o

Thanks for the info on the a/c setting. I will defnitely give that a try. I hear the a/c part of the petcool is great but the heat is a real pain to get adjusted comfortably.
