When you consider the right length for your bed, lay down and cross your arms behind your head, and measure from your elbows to the bottom of your shoes. Remember that your head isn't going to be right up to the wall of the front of the trailer.
You can also extend the foot of the 'bed' to the galley bottom, if you don't plan on carrying your ice chest back there.
See?? The best thing about building your own is that you can make it just right for you , and your level of comfort, and your towing capacity.
My best advice is to seek out someone in your area and look at one in person... pick up the hitch, lay down inside, lift the hatch (hatch height is another consideration because of your height)
