Am I too big?

Postby Boom Boom » Tue Jun 09, 2009 10:24 am

First of all I would like to say hello! I am going to attempt to build a TD but I am 6'3" tall and am wondering if I am going to be comfortable in one of these. What size trailer should I consider for my height.
Thanks for your help, and what a wonderfull site. :applause:

I'm 6'3" tall and weigh...well I'm a big guy. My tear is 5x10 and I'm very comfortable in it. The inside fits a queen size foam mattress and I slept great during our first trip.

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

Welcome to the forum Terry. Check out the newsletter for Teardroppers Of Oregon & Washington. Maybe you could attend one of our events to decide what you want in a teardrop. :D Danny

When you consider the right length for your bed, lay down and cross your arms behind your head, and measure from your elbows to the bottom of your shoes. Remember that your head isn't going to be right up to the wall of the front of the trailer.

You can also extend the foot of the 'bed' to the galley bottom, if you don't plan on carrying your ice chest back there.

See?? The best thing about building your own is that you can make it just right for you , and your level of comfort, and your towing capacity.

My best advice is to seek out someone in your area and look at one in person... pick up the hitch, lay down inside, lift the hatch (hatch height is another consideration because of your height)

I live in Virginia so most of the west coast gatherings are out of the question. I have looked at a lot of you guys and gals TD’s and have gotten several of really neat ideas. I think the key is to have a lot of expandable table/ worktop areas on the exterior. Can you direct me to some dimensional floor plan drawings or sketches so I can get the feel for how the cabinets and sleeping arraignments overlap with each other?

Terry, have a look at the links at the top of the page. Check out the design library and the Generic Benroy plans. With those two bits of info you should have your TD finished in about....Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.........................12 months

Cheers
Paul

Welcome! I'm 6'4" and 270 lbs. The queen size bed in my 5x8 Generic Benroy works fine.

Hey Boom Boom, LITTLE BOY, I am 6'11" and even I fit in a teardrop. Look in my album. Make it as long as you need. Don't bather what your neighbour says about it. Don't worry, be happy and BUILT

Hey Boom Boom,

Welcome to the forum... I would definitely not consider anything less than 5x10.
