Break, reflectors rule of thumb.

I was unsure if this was US government or canada but it offers common sence as to where to put those lights.

I also found a site where a guy recomended adding a orange line and adding extra bright yellow turn lights.

Ron,

I've had that site in my favorites now for a long time, but had completely forgotten it. Thanks for posting the link! It's a good list of info to have. :applause:

Since my truck has separate orange turn signals, I've wired my trailers the same. My turn signals have dual element bulbs, and I used the brighter element. I probably should have wired up both to come on at the same time, but the one seems bright enough.

On my homemade aluminum slash 2x4 bumper, I have put one red and one orange/amber reflector on each side.... It did not dawn on me till a day later that the clearance lights on car and trailer have amber in front and red at the back..... I decided to leave it the way it is, even though it is wrong and illegal.

Someday, I may be stopped by a bored police officer, and I"ll have to fixe the problem... till then, que sera, sera......

trailer lights

Postby oklahomajewel » Sun May 28, 2006 3:08 pm

I am planning on double round taillights on the back for the galley hatch (not on the 'bumper') like Katy & Ray's in the hall of fame.

Tell me... can't they both be red, one designated as the blinker? And do I have to have lights on the back of the fender, or just reflectors?

Remember .... all this wiring stuff is Greek to me. I'll figure this out with my helper too, but you all are THE BEST!!!

'Rear Turn Signal Lamps ( I) Indicate direction of turn Minimum 2 Red or Yellow On the rear - symmetrical - as far apart as practicable 380-2110 (15-83)"......from the link Ron posted.

FROM KUFFEL CREEK [Kevin's website] I plan on using 4 as well, but will mount mine a little higher, just for looks and better visibility..

The thread rises from the ashes like a phoenix!

Ken! Where did you get those taillights?! Your excellent taste has inspired a thread-resurrection. They are...the most beautiful piece of taillight I have ever seen...

Marker Lights

Postby john curtis » Mon Jul 06, 2009 10:49 pm

Have just mounted my front side marker lights (ambers) about 10" up from the bottom of the wall inline with the rear marker lights. My question is do they the front ambers have to be mounted as high as possible. If so I guess I will be moving them up.Need info for Alberta Canada.

Thanks John

I'm guessing you are under 80" wide so I don't _think_ you need them, that said the only reference I can find is on Alberta Snowmobile Association's website

* Every trailer requires the following lights: tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, side markers (amber in front, red at rear). If the trailer width exceeds 80" (2.05 m) it also requires clearance lights (amber facing forward, red facing rear ward) and identification lights (three red in the centre rear of the trailer).

edit: OH... I just reread that... "Every trailer requires the following lights: tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, side markers (amber in front, red at rear).". That means both my utility trailers are in violation :(

Marker Lights

Postby john curtis » Tue Jul 07, 2009 10:32 pm

Hi Burke
Actualy my trailer is 81.5" wide, fender to fender.Went down and looked at some new RVs today and they all have 5 red markers at the top of the trailer on the rear.Ambers on the outside front corners and and ambers on the top front corners. So I went and bought the 5 red markers for the rear and 2 more ambers for the front. If I have to put anymore lights on it's going to look like a Christmas tree.I just about forgot I also need a licence plate light.

Where did you find lights? I hope not an RV dealer, Princess Auto always has the best prices, and sometimes absolute steals on tools - I got a biscuit joiner for $10 a while back - it's no Porter Cable or DeWalt but for my use good enough.
