Trout Fishing w/the family today

Postby Alfred » Sat Aug 01, 2009 5:41 pm

Hey gang,

Sweet Wife and I took the kids Trout fishing today, one of those trout farms where they stock the lake, provide the gear, and help you clean the fish. I know its cheating, but hey, I've never been either! Took me several tries to master casting out the line, and still messed up every now and then. Used canned corn kernels for bait.

But we caught 8 smallish rainbow trout, about 3lbs total. The kids had a blast! Each of the kids caught at least one fish, and they helped me reel mine in.

Then we came home, and following some guidance off the internet, I rubbed them with olive oil, added lemon juice, a generous amount of Cajun Seasoning, wrapped each one in aluminum foil and baked them for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

They turned out great! (Except next time I want to fish in one of those lakes that stocks the filets!).

The kids really enjoyed it, and they really dug the catching your own food and eating it thing, just like the old days, they said. It was a really nice day. Only cost us $14 for the fishing, and about $6 in sodas/bottled water. Good deal for a day of family fun!

No matter the price, the kids know you care...and they won't forget...

Good for you :applause:

Man, it has been just one of those great days! After dinner now, the kids just called me out to the back yard, and there's this big rainbow in the sky in front of the house, arcing up into the mountains!

Yeah, funny thing, this morning Wife and I were thinking we wanted to do something fun with the kids today. So I thought maybe taking them to Ghost Town in the Sky (theme park) and let them ride the rides awhile or going fishing.

So we called a "family meeting" to gather a consensus, and I thought for sure the kids would want to go to the amusement park, but I'll be darned if they didn't decide they wanted to go fishing instead! So, off we went! And it was just a nice, low impact, leisurely fun afternoon.
