Hiya from Denver

Postby avt314 » Sun Aug 23, 2009 6:55 pm

Hi folks,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Anne in Denver and I just found this forum. I am not the wildly happy owner of a teardrop trailer just yet, but it's my dream. Really, I was born this way. As a kid we used to take family trips up to our cabin on Northern Wisconsin, and I would set up the back seat of (our gigantic 70's Chevy something or other 4-door) with a "bedroom", "kitchen", "library/lounge" area, etc. Of course it wasn't that big and it was all in the same space, but surely you get this fascination? I loved the idea that I could have a cozy little home that went with me wherever we went. I have never lost that love, it's only grown.
I still don't own a TD, but I will, oh I will. My goal was and is to acquire one by the time I'm 45 (which is in 5.5 years), not sure why I picked that number but I did. Mostly money-related. I'm not necessarily very mechanically inclined (although I do work on my 100-year-old house), and though I do learn fast I also know that the tools required to build one are many and expensive. So I'm looking to acquire one that needs love (as opposed to build - but I am so impressed by the builders on this site! AMAZING!), because that I can give it, lots of love. I am probably more passionate about this goal that anything else in my life. I'm guessing you know the feeling.
I'm also really impressed by the sense of family here. I'm a member of another forum related to music where there is similar love, and those folks have become my family. We take care of each other, and I can see you all do too. I hope I can get to know some of you, because I WILL be a TD owner! I will!
Thanks for the ear.
Cheers!
Anne

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the howdy! You know, I know that I can't acquire all the tools (I'll never have the $$), and don't have the know-how to build a td, but I would love to meet some members in the Denver/CoSpgs./Ft Collins area who might need help building. I mean truly, I'll need to understand the inner workings, and would be happy to help on a build. I'd be happy to travel a bit to help and learn! If you know of anyone on the forum who needs an extra set of hands, feel free to hook us up. I'm a willing and able apprentice!
Thanks
Anne

Welcome. :P

I think that most if not everone here looks at it that way; I certainly do. You'll fit right in here.

Also, you'd be surprised what little you'd need tool-wise to build a solid teardrop, but one can never have enough clamps.

Hi Anne!!

You should check out the post titled Last Gasp of Summer 09 down in the North Central section. It's a small gathering of tears down at the Royal Gorge south of Colo Springs outside of Canon City. I used to live in CO and there are some great people down there.

On building your own: I had never built anything before but after meeting some local teardroppers (George Thornton especially) I took the plunge. Don't think of building the whole thing at once...a wall here, a floor there and all of a sudden it's a whole teardrop!! You don't really need any fancy tools...I did most everything with Home Depot brand cordless...drill, jigsaw, sander. A router comes in handy but not critical. I built my Tearscape in just 4 months...there are some pics in my album if you want to check it out. Not real fancy but I love it!!

Definately come to the Last Gasp, even if it's just for lunch, hiking, and some dinner, but feel free to stay the night. We moved to Co Springs last year and went, you'll want to talk to Pam Wright for the details. We have a new baby now so things are slightly more complicated but we'll more than likely be there saturday night to spend the night.

It's 24-27 September in the city owned camping area of Canon City near Buckskin Joe. From Denver it's about 2 hours, or just over. From here in the springs it takes about an hour, maybe a tad longer.

Hi td focus, and thanks for the celebratory welcome! My cousin is a woodworker, that's what I hear about clamps. My entire gift to him one year was just that!

Thanks NutmegJoe! To tell you the truth, I had never considered it, but I may now. You make it sound so easy! I will definitely look into it.
Cheers!

Hi Jason and Amanda,
Thank you for the invite! Very kind. I just may do that. I would love to come down just to check out the td's, get some ideas, some inspiration, and meet some of you great folks. Who is Pam Wright though, and how do I talk to her? (Should that be obvious to me? Sorry...)
Thanks!

Building your own puts you in control, you can make it as difficult or as easy as you want. Some people (myself included) tend to do things the hard way. I've had several folks come look at my trailer and try it on. You are welcome to come by if you're in the neighborhood.

Ahh - thanks fire lion! I will check it. I'm not in a position to buy immediately, buy I do love looking, and I am definitely in a position/dispotition to buy (or build?? thanks forum folks for making that even seem possible!) within the next couple of years.
It will happen. It WILL happen. I love that I found this forum.
Thank you all for being so welcoming! I feel like I found home. heh. That should probably be "home"!

I would LOVE to come see your td Asianflava! To tell you the truth, I am probably going to be a fixer-upper kind of gal. But I'll consider the build option! Since y'all make it sound so easy :D
