Yeah, I’ve been saying that the cloth was necessary for a while, but that was based on all of the plywood boat building sites I looked at where the conditions are a little harsher i.e. actually in the water, and exposed to the sun. Though the conditions were a bit harsher, nearly 100 % of the folks had trouble over time when the fiber was left out of the epoxy coating. Where the fiberglass cloth was used there were virtually no problems.
I would go so far as to say that if I didn’t have an indoor place to put a woody, I wouldn’t build one. And if I had to put my tear outside, I would cover it with a proper (breathable) cover like the one shown above (which, BTW, is VERY nice!).
