Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Hey Danny- we used 26 ga. from a heating and air shop. They use it in ducting. Got 2-5x10 sheets for about $70.00. Took 2 days to get. Couldn't find alum. in 5' wide. And at 1 1/2 sheets for the tear it doesn't weigh that much more. We had a friend paint it to match Cathy's car. Looks great and the way I shove it into things, I'm sure aluminum would be history by now.

Yeah, that is what I have 26 gauge. Nice and shiny. How did you prep it for paint? Primer used? Top coat?

Has anyone used galvanized for roof tops on their builds? It seems to me this would be a very durable product. Galvanized comes with an oily coating which must be removed with a water based acid wash. Some old timers recommend vinegar and water. I also have found several spar varnish brands that say to use spar varnish on metal to protect against uv rays and salt air. Galvanized will break down if left untreated and exposed to air. It is called white rust and of course dulls the appearance. gloss marine varnish should seal it up and keep it shiny. How have your results turned out??

Galvaneal! Comes acid etched and ready to paint. Use Imron or Acrylic enamel with hardener.

But if you really want the finest...what Dean said!

Located a black vinyl trim product that works great for trimming out the top/side joints. Mfg. Big orange I think, Armtex or something like that  LOL. Anyway, it works good and is cheap. 2 bucks for a strip 6.5 feet long 8) I like the black trim between the woody sides and the metal roof. Also put in new hunter green carpet. promise to shoot pix this week and will post finished tear pix. Danny

You are almost done! So what is this black vinyl and how does it do on the curves? Does it shrink to fit?

You can see them in the photo above. They are the same shape as the aluminum ones we are all used to except they are a composite material very bendy and easy to use. and 1 1/2" wide. They have screw holes every 8 "..They come in 6 1/2 foot lengths. 2 bucks per strip. they have an edge(lip) that goes over the sides. I will try to take a picture of a strip next time I have the camera outside  Found them at a box store.

So, is anyone else using galvanized on their build? I have 2 more on the drawing board both will be 78'' long on a small HF trailer. I need to clear out the shop first though. Must get some trailers sold before next project.
