Chip wrote:hey Al,,, I cant remember for sure who gave me this advice on sealing wood,, but they have had real good luck with this method,,, I used it and it worked pretty good ,,, apply 2 or more coats of water based poly urethane to the bare wood,,,, sand inbetween coats to smooth things out,,, then apply 2 or 3 coats of maring grade spar varnish over the polyurethane,,, again sand between coats,,,, after ya get everything real smooth then leave it if it looks good or ya can paint it with a good grade of paint,,, now if you gonna use metal,,, fiberglass or some other covering then ya dont need to put as many coats and ya wont have to sand as much,,,, Its not expensive and seals up real nice,,,, the Poly doesnt have uv blockers in it but the spar varnish does,,, plus the spar varnish isnt as brittle as the poly,,,,, Poly first though then spar varnish,,,![]()
