And Miriam ... yes, I've got a good electric skillet with a high lid , so we may do something like that instead. We'll figure something out.
And the gravy will be in a crock pot.

Laoutdoorsman is offering to cook up some ham or sausage and bring some juice too .

Thanks all !

Since I haven't seen them mentioned yet, and no self respecting Southern breakfast would be complete without them; I'm thinking maybe bringing grits. If I can figure out how to make a batch big enough to stretch as far as possible.

:thinking: Can grits be done in the crockpot overnight? I guess there's a first time for everything!!

I can't vouch for it but - Here's a recipe by google:

"Crock Pot" Grits Recipe

Ingredients

* Cooking Spray
* 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
* 7 - 8 Cups - Boiling liquid (usually water)
* 2 Cups - Cornmeal (uncooked grits), preferable stone ground, coarse or fine
* 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 teaspoons salt

Directions

Here is one from a cookbook by Crescent Dragonwagon.

1) Spray the inside of a slow cooker well with cooking
spray. turn the heat to high.

2) Add the liquid, salt, and cornmeal and stir well.
Cover and leave on high for 1 hour, then lift the lid,
stir well, and turn the heat to low.

3) Continue cooking, stirring very occasionally (once
an hour or so, if you happen to think of it), until
tender or very thick, 6 to 9 hours. serve hot, as is,
or chill and "set up" for later use.

It is a vegetarian cookbook, which i think is why she
has olive oil as an option, and doesnt use much butter.

:) I think he is looking for a large turkey roaster. Most come with racks and you can bake or warm things in them.

TD,
I'll bring a crock pot too and grits. I love the idea of cooking them overnight. I get up often enough in the night to keep them stirred too. :oops:
We are not going to need to eat lunch if we eat this big a breakfast. I can't wait to meet you guys. I feel like I already know several of you and I feel truly blessed to have found this group. :wakka wakka:

LCG Breakfast

Postby Mrs Rayvillian » Wed Oct 14, 2009 4:47 pm

Gary and I are wondering if we can borrow anyone's chimney fire starter and/or a DO or two for breakfast on Saturday. We are going to fix two 14-inch DO with cinnamon rolls and have 3 12-inch for the mountain man breakfast casserole ... but will have to keep a lot of charcoal going plus think an extra casserole or two might not be too bad. :thinking: Trudy
