1964 1/2 Mustang ~ How Bad Do You Want It???

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I remember when the Mary Tyler Moore show started. Didn't the opening scenes show her washing a Mustang? They were new then.

We had a New Year's gathering in Death Valley a couple of years ago and this is Kelly's 66. She's a good friend of Joanne "Desert Dog". Kelly did all of the work on it herself (including the motor). Too bad this picture doesn't let you hear how that motor was purring at the time.

Works for me.

I think the only Mustang worth that much money has 12-cylinders. You can get the 12-cylinder ones for about half the price of that car. This one is a mere $2.1M click the link for the sale details.

The seller is smoking crack. IIRC the most ANY Mustang ever fetched was $930,000, and that was a Shelby GT350R that was one of three Shelby Factory Racers -- and one of 36 "R" models ever made. I know the seller of that car, and photographed it for a magazine cover.

GT500KR models are the next most valuable, at about 250-grand for a coupe and 300 for a convertible.

#003 1953 Corvette sold for one-million at BJ a few years ago, when prices were high for such cars. Nobody knows what happened to "001, and there are only rumors of #002 still existing. So, #003 is the first known Corvette -- and it barely made it to one-million.

If that car really is the first one off the line, it might fetch six-figures, IMO. Now way it goes in the seven-figure range.

Nope, Not a chance. I will be honestly shocked if it sells for half a million.

starleen2 wrote:Post on E-bay for some inexpensive exposure – I doubt that it would go that high at BJ auction. The only thing special is that it is the first off the assembly line according to the documentation. I would wonder why a convertible would be one of the first? They didn’t make too many convertibles in the first year of production
And Speaking of Mustangs here is a picture of mine. Rare 65 mustang GT with A code 289 HiPo motor, Pony interior, automatic, rally pac, 140 mph speedo (and yes it did), all matching numbers and not a fake! They only made about 5,000 Fastbacks in 1965 - and not all were GT's. Bought it in Rockwall, Tx for $4,000. I though it was too much for the car – that was 1985 prices, but my friend, who judges mustangs, showed me the book value. I did all the restoration – from body work, interior to final paint – and it sat in the garage for three years – I finally sold to a dentist in New York for $18,000.00 in 1988.

Was it the 200, 225 or 271 HP version of the HiPo 289? If it was the 271 HP version, and the car was in excellent condition, it would be worth about 45K today. The 200HP in excellent condition would be a 40K car.

My personal favorite Mustang GT was the 1968 model.

BARRETT-JACKSON GEARS UP FOR SPECTACULAR 2009 SCOTTSDALE COLLECT

(in part)

Provenance Brings it Home
A unique story, connection to the past or rare origin can turn a vehicle into a star collector car. Barrett-Jackson has been recognized for consigning vehicles like Carroll Shelby’s 1966 Cobra Super Snake in 2007, which sold for $5.5 million, a record for an American-built vehicle. This year, Barrett-Jackson has nabbed an impressive collection of history-rich vehicles for the Scottsdale auction, including the first production Ford Thunderbird (Lot #1295). The Raven Black 1955 T-Bird convertible was produced by Ford on Sept. 9, 1954, and represents the birth of Ford’s sports car program.

I watched that auction with the police escort from the under ground garage that it was stored.
Pretty spendy car.

They said on BJ that #001 & #002 were rumored to have been burnt for the governor to demonstrate that there was steel in the corvette's :D Danny

Vette numbers 001 through 003 did a lot of test duties. 003 was restored, but nobody knows for sure what happened to 001, and some say 002 exists, but I don't know.

I have seen, and photographed #003. It looks better today than it ever did new. All of these classic cars that have been restored look better than they did new.

I'll try to post up a photo of 003. I gotta dig through one of my many hard drives that are not very well organized to find it.

Speaking of Stangs, I was looking for the Vette, and found this. I do NOT do portraits -- period. Well, maybe I make an exception for some people...

Image

I was in Vegas for SEMA. and Shelby's PR guy is a friend of mine. I was going to the factory to drive and photograph the new Shelby GT Convertible, and Scott asked me if I wanted an exclusive shoot with Carroll. I had to bend my "no portraits' rule for that.
