Hey Juneau Dave -

Thanks for the attaboy - I know its one step in a long list of steps, but it really does seem like a milestone, and she sure looks nice all lit up...

Gotta give kudo's to my friend David, too, who did most of the wiring while I just tried to assist where I could...

Mounting the interior lanterns

Postby Alfred » Sun Jan 17, 2010 11:41 pm

Hey Gang,

OK, been trying to figure out how to mount these red lanterns, allowing room for the wiring and for a small on/off switch.

I think I have the answer here:

These are going to go on the interior walls between the side windows and the doors.

Will keep you posted!

Mike...

There is another thread here where we were discussing converting these oil lanterns to 12v. http://tnttt.com/viewto ... 70&start=0

I received a lot of good feedback from Bob Henry (above), also from eatatjoz (picture below), and others...

I really like the way these old style lamps look in and around the campers!

Lantern!

Postby Alfred » Sun Jan 24, 2010 9:38 pm

Hey gang,

Tonight, I got one of the lanterns wired up and mounted...

The lantern is held in place with washers and a wingnut. Fellow at ACE Hardware very helpful this morning finding the right screw, washers, wingnut for the job (I really dig ACE Hardware, or any small old-fashioned hardware store, for that matter). Toggle switch came from Radio Shack.

Here is it is mounted, you can see the automotive bulb inside...

...And here she is all lit up!

Now I have to get the one for the other side done...

wing nut cover

Postby danlott » Sun Jan 24, 2010 10:52 pm

If you wanted to cover up the wingnut and bolt for less chance of scratching yourself on it you could use toilet base bolt caps. You can get them at just about any hardware store.

Hmm, hadn't thought of that...Some sort of cap might be more aesthetically appealing, too...

Thanks, Gang -

Just struck me again, one of the great things about this hobby and this T&TTT forum

How nice it is that I can fix my lantern here in Asheville, NC and get feedback, attaboys, and encouragement from friends all the way across the US in Nevada and California, and as far away as my friend in Finland!

Appreciate the feedback, y;all...

Nice set-up. You may want to remove the bails since it's a fixxed mount. It is just a noise-maker now.

Postby Alfred » Thu Feb 11, 2010 11:56 pm

Hey Gang,

Worked for awhile on the other lantern tonight...Cold in the garage, happy for the kerosene space heater. Here's another picture.

Oh - And this is my 1000th post!

I just advised my sweet Wife of this momentous occasion - She says "1000 ?, Is that all?" LOL!

I borrowed it too, so I am happy to pass it on!

Check here for a thread devoted to these converted lanterns:
http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=31270

By the way, bought the two small lanterns that I used off of http://www.Amazon.com, I believe they were $3.50 each plus S/H. They come in Red or Navy Blue.
