If one can skate.. I don't think you need pristine roads. It is not huge here.. but people do skate our roads. I know people that scream down some of our hills at 40mph [which I think is nuts].

Not knowing how to skate.. I want FLAT terrain. As I said if I try summer skating I would head to some of the school tracks.

As busy I am with cycling and other activity.. I am unlikely to do that.

I would like to ice skate... but as I said outside on lakes. We often don't have good ice for that, it is more often covered in snow.

You could always try the "all terrain" models.

Walked to the supermarket in the snow today, about a mile each way. Then did the "regular" workout...did 60 lbs all three sets on the step-ups. Increased the weight on the front squat/push press.
My daughter walked by while I was between sets, so I shot her the "double guns" - she said I was getting a little scary. This only encourages me.

I was just getting ready to do a kettlebell workout, when I got a call, that my new kettlebells had come in at work. I have been waiting since late August.

So I went right over to pick them up. I did some isometric overhead holds, while I was waiting for Dave.

Then came home and did not have much time.. before a meeting. I did some overhead presses.. as well as isometric holds.. and some turkish get ups.

my new KB's.. a 25# for my wife.. to round out her 18# and her 35#

I also use the 35# and now also have a 45# 55# and a beastly [for me] 75#

I have been doing my turkish get ups with the 35# KB and a 50# dumbell. Tonight I did some with my 55#KB.. I look forward to being able to move up to the 75#.
I did do some overhead holds with it. Man does it torque on the wrist.. :o

Better. I did have a slight amount of fatigue as I described last week, but it felt more "normal" this time.

If i was going to skate outside in my rural town I would have a set of these.. I would probably never get accustomed to inlines but these would be gravy...they come in all sizes and colors... called quadlines..

Wow, $179! How does that compare to regular skates?
Offroad skates link no workee, I'll try Googling it.
Didn't think about it last night, but in addition to 'normal walk', busy day at work, I was pushing lines of 10+ shopping carts during lot duty, which had to be done more often than normal.
If you want a good strenth workout for you legs, and don't want to do squats, go to your local grocery store and push mass quantities of shopping carts. Woke up this morning with sore quads and glutes from that. If I ever take up weights again, I'll probably just push shopping carts around (or my car) for leg strength development, as I can think of no better 'functional' exercise for the legs and glutes.
My usual walk and resistance routine, except I quit doing wall squats in favor of just squats with no weights. even though I had to make some awfull faces to do them tonight.

sorry about the bad link. this one seems to work. :D

these are expensive... :o It looks like a blast though. I think I would want to be fairly good on skates first..

I will have to check with my friend that had them. I don't know how much he used them.

I am sure that pushing shopping carts is a real good workout.

I would like to get a sled or something to pull / push.. to incorporate into my workouts.

 Maybe I can just borrow a shopping cart.. and put weight in it.. or periodically head towards a store and push a line of their carts around the parking lot. 8)
