New here...

Postby jan4peace » Wed Mar 17, 2010 9:19 pm

Hey, y'all. New here and just getting started. My hubby is amazing and just completed building his version of a teardrop camper. I love it! It's adoreable. We will soon be taking our maiden voyage. Is there a community of teardrop (or something like it) enthusiasts in Alabama? Just wondering..we are new to the fun as we have only ever tent camped. Any info would be welcome. Thanks!

Happy tears to you all.

Sincerely,

Mrs. B :)
Jan

Welcome Mrs. B.
If you go to the head of the page, click on TearJerkers, then click on TJ Chapter Map. You would be the Sweet Tear Alabama Chapter.
Hope this helps.
We love pictures if you have any. :)

The teardrop was my husband's inspiration, but our camper is non-traditional. He built the base from recycled pump barrels and the body from wood with few, if any, curve to the shape. Our tires are smaller than what I'm seeing in photos here. The back door opens upward for a small galley and the cabin is just large enough for a double bed, one shelf, a few gadgets, and a fan. My hubby is throwing names ideas around such as "beats-a-tent" or "all-cooped-up". Whatever the definition and whichever name we choose, we plan to have a blast camping, fishing and soaking up the sun this year. My hubby is right, this will beat sleepin' in our tent any day!

I'll check out the information you have shared and maybe even post some photos later, but I'm not sure how our home away from home will be perceived in comparison to the ones I've seen here. It is cute though and I'm proud of my husband's efforts. He did a good job. :miriams:

Thanx!

Mrs. B

You will find the people here to be appreciative of anything. There is a member who built a trailer out of old garage doors for his hunting trips. We appreciate the desire, and ingenuity put into any build!

Oh yeah... WELCOME! :)

Hey, y'all!

Postby jan4peace » Thu Mar 18, 2010 1:25 pm

Thanks for the warm welcome. Perhaps I can post some pics from the beginning stages to the end product. My hubby cringed when I bought plastic pink flamingos and a flamingo wind sock to decorate the campsite, but I thought they were funny. He's more into the basics, but he's having fun with it. He doesn't care as long as long as he can blame me for the decorating and fish for hours at his favorite spot on the Gulf Coast. I'm ready for the sea, suds, and blue skies myself. Last year, we were soaked to the bone when it rained on our sad little tent, but it was still fun. "Allcoopedup" will feel like a beach mansion compared to that. We have only been married a couple of years. Other than our wacky tent camping trips, we haven't had a true honeymoon. Maybe this can be it! LOL I'm ready for the maiden voyage!

I've enjoyed looking at your fabulous photos and hope to talk to y'all again soon.

Thanks again!

Flamingos

Postby jan4peace » Fri Mar 19, 2010 1:28 am

I'm glad there are other flamingo fans out there. I agree with the ad, "tacky and retro". What's not to love? LOL
