What do you do with your interior?

Postby claw73 » Fri Mar 19, 2010 9:23 am

Hello everyone, I just started building my tear and made a rookie mistake. I was planning on epoxy/painting the outside, truck bed liner on the roof, and staining the entire interior. I'm using 1/4" Luaun for the whole thing. I clamped all the pieces together to cut the curves, sand smooth, and got them looking more than acceptable so I was pretty proud. Then I realized that the luaun has a woody side and what seems like a veneer side that looks similar on all of them...guess who didn't put the woody sides on the interior! So now I have a woody side and the veneer side on the inner side.

Which brings me to my topic. What do you guys do to your interiors? I figure most people stain it, but light or dark? Does anyone paint? I'm just looking for some ideas and I think other people would love to see them too!

Easy fix is to panel, paint or wall paper! 8) If anyone looked carefully at mine the grain goes up on one side and across on the other....... Can't look at both sides at one time.. ;)

I simply coated mine with the left over marine spar varnish. It gave the luan a little deeper honey gold patina. Don't sweat the roof booboo. You would not believe the folks that never even notice I have a see thru roof. They just don't look up. You will be the only one that even notices the pattern difference. I also , bet you will never notice it while you are asleep

We are either painting ours or using bamboo mats as "wallpaper." We like the whole tropical theme. :relaxing:

I put a marine grade hull liner on my walls and the ceiling is wood. The hull liner dampens the sound a little in the interior and it's nice to not have bare skin against a cold wood wall.

If your walls are identical , can you just switch the left for right & that would make the outside then become the inside & vica versa ????? 8)

Well, my oldest son is a professional "faux finish" artist and he did my interior and the galley and I can't resist the urge to brag on him a little. He does extremely nice work and was selected by the "Extreme Home Makeover" TV team to finish a couple of the rooms in the house they featured near Oklahoma City on last Sunday Night's program. I don't know if you can really see how nice the look is from this pic, but, its the best one I have.

I'd say paint. In a light color, should make the space feel bigger. Dark colors tend to make spaces feel closed in and smaller....

Whoa, you have some THICK walls. Your walls are 3x thicker than mine!

I bet that thing could double as a battering ram, and still hold up great. Then again, if you want to survive a bear attack (per your example), thick walls seem like a good plan to me.

Thanks guys! Those all look great! I found two pieces of luaun that had the veneer side match fairly closely to the second piece's real wood side. I think I'll use a darker stain such as a red mahogany and it will all blend fairly well. Hearing the comment about painting light though scared me, I don't want it to be to coffin like.

My walls are clear-finished red oak, ceiling is beige hull liner, and cabinets will be stained black.

I don't find it to be too dark...and I don't think I'll think about the colors when I'm asleep.

My walls are wood paneling, whatever the "fancy" stuff is they put in the Silver Shadow.

I know, I know, it's a commercially purchased tear

But we were camping the weekend after we bought it 8)

My Little Guy had thin charcoal carpet on the walls and floor. It collected dirt and sticks and such and I jus hate that dark ,cheap stuff. I love WOOD, so I took out the carpet and resurfaced with light "birch' paneling on the ceiling(took OUT the white plastic junk). Put the same on the upper walls and installed "wainscoating" on the lower part with chair rail between them. I always liked that look...Also installed bamboo flooring..Woo Hoo ! took out the cabinet at top center and built a small shelf across the front from the floor ,up about 10 inches to put my clock, wallet, etc...build em like YOU want em !
