Using 10 gage is overkill for other lights.

that said it would run very cool to the touch.

think of the electrons as BB's pushing against each other

put them in a small pipe they bump together the friction causes heat.

put them into a big pipe they don't rub together as much so less friction less heat.

10 gage is good for lights.

I live just outside Xenia If I can be of any help just ask.

10 gauge

Postby eamarquardt » Wed Mar 24, 2010 12:08 am

Ten gauge for led lights (IMHO) is way overkill. Try a real life experiment and wire up some lights to 16 gauge or even smaller and see what haps! My bet, they'll work just fine.

My TIG machine runs 310 amps through about 12 gauge no problem! Of course, the wire is water jacketed and cooled.

Cheers,

Gus

Thanks all for your sugestions and thanks pete42 for the offer for help. I appriciate it. I do realize this 10G wire I got would be overkill for hooking up lights and other small amp things but I hate to be wasteful and I have it so think I will use it. I'm thinking of putting my aux. batt. on the tongue and fuse box near the back so I think this wire will be fine for the run I will be making. It's about 8' to the fuse box.
