Another Newbie here

Postby BKinGA » Sun Apr 18, 2010 9:11 pm

Hi all,
This is pitiful but I'm not sure if a new topic is the same as a new thread. I hope so. I've been reading everything on here for about a month. Been considering the next big thing in my life, so to speak, for a couple of years now - boat, vacation place, cruise, camper, career change, etc. I've been looking for something my Honda Element could pull for some time. Had almost decided that a wave runner would probably be the only thing, when I came upon this site. Fell in love with the teardrops and totally excited that my Element can pull them!! Woohoo! No need for a new pull vehicle or a separate storage place. I began reading a thread? where Hiker Chick was considering getting a teardrop. Spent 2 nights reading until the wee hours of the morning. Absolutely love the outcome, all the photos, Gidge, and the great support all of you offered during her process. Makes me think I can do this! I'm looking for a dealer or an event where I can see some teardrops in person. If nothing else, I'm traveling to Ohio this summer and will stop at Lil Guy. Love all the decorating tips and galley configs, hall of fame, etc. I'm totally obsessed and dreaming every day. So glad I found this site!!! :)

Glad you caught the bug!

I was cursed with a 14' camper that's been in my driveway for four years, and my lil' Hyundai wouldn't pull it. I'm hoping in a couple more weeks my tear will be following my Hyundai to one of the two state parks that are close by for it's maiden voyage.

Welcome to the fun!

The TearJerker site (which has been having issues this weekend) is a great place to learn about upcoming gatherings where you can see tears live and in person. It is a forum whose focus is camping with tears & other small trailers where T&TTT focus on the building, updating, etc.

The GA group was near Savannah this weekend. The TN group has a gathering (I think around 8-10 tears) signed up next weekend near Crossville, TN. AL group has one the 3rd weekend in May (about 6 tears & a t@b signed up) at Guntersville, AL and we have a quad state gathering in July (almost 20 tears/TTTs signed up at present) at Cloudland Canyon State Park in GA. Details about these are in the Southeast section here and on the TearJerker site. Feel free to bring a tent and come join us for the weekend or just stop in for the day.

Welcome to the forum! Once we caught the TD bug we needed to get a new vehicle. Ended up buying an Element after seeing how many folks here have them. You've found the best people and help on the net.

Cheers, Dave

Welcome aboard, BK!

What color is your E?

Honda should get with the program -- Elements + Teardrops.... it's elemental.

Welcome BK!!! Depending if your looking to buy or build your own there is a lot of options here in the Atl area for teardrops. Hope to see you at one of the gatherings soon.

I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures from the maiden voyage! I looked at Sketchup after you mentioned it and Whoa, its out of my league. That's why I need to buy instead of build!

Wow, that is sooo beautiful! A work of art and a labor of love I'm sure. Did you build the canoe yourself as well? Just gorgeous. Gotta love the red Element too!

Sounds like youve been biten by the Teardrop Bug. When We started building our Tear Its all we thought about, different way to get more storage ect ect. Made about 100 different sketches. We even bought plans off of ebay (really cheesy and cheap) but then we came across this site and wow we couldnt read enough. Great site full of ideas, lots of help and support.
Enjoy your build,
Bill and Marijo :applause:
Hope to see you on the road.

We absolutely love our Element! Before I bought it we would approach people in parking lots who we're getting in and out of their Elements and ask them questions. Much like I hear people do to teardrop owners! We've been very happy with it around town and on road trips.

Mine is Kiwi Metallic, 06. My daughter and I went for the most fun and trendy color they had. Never done that before in my life but its been fun. Even 3-4 years later we still get lots of comments. (I can only imagine what it would be like with a teardrop on the back.) Of course we live in a small suburb and it was the only Kiwi in town for almost a year. Now there are 1 or 2 more. I have read all of your posts and am in awe of your galapagos E & tear. Love your pictures and those of Gidge too! Your "Elemental" slogan would be perfect for Honda. They should get on it. I'm just joining the HondaElementOwners forum too so I will see you there as well. Thanks for your advice onthe 5 or 6-wide.

Google has a tutorial, that's really easy to follow. I was lost until I watched that. You can do some simple designing without a huge learning curve.

I am no carpenter, but with all the tips, and tricks I've learned here on the site, I think mine is coming out pretty nicely. You might surprise yourself if you change your mind and build!!!

Thanks for making me welcome

Postby BKinGA » Sun May 02, 2010 8:29 pm

Hi all,
I've been away for awhile but wanted to say thanks to all of you for making me feel welcome. I had hoped to go to the Tenn. gathering a couple of weeks ago, but it was pouring rain here all weekend. Decided not to drive in the bad weather but was sorry to miss the opportunity. Still hoping to get a teardrop in the next 2 or 3 months.
