You can coat them with chip guard, sold in auto body supply stores, lots of companies make it, 3M, Transtar, SEM, to name a few. It has a slight texture to it, but it will hold up. It's made to cover the rockers below the doors from chipping.

You can put in on before the paint, and paint right over it, or you can get clear chip guard and put it on top of the paint.

There are also companies that make a clear adhesive vinyl type stuff, that you would put on after the paint, but it's probably more expensive the aerosol chip guards.

Johnny- have you seen the 'clear bra' stuff advertised by a couple of local shops? They apply it over your paint, it's completely clear with a slight texture. I've seen it on the front of a couple of rigs after a year or two and seems tough with no yellowing. Still had it's shine too. Sorry but no idea what it costs. Just a thought.

EDIT- the stuff I'm refering to is the same as the third type Paul just mentioned. Guess we were both thinking along the same lines at the same time.

There is also a two component spray on clear, armor coat is one brand name, it's the best stuff out there, but about 80 bucks a pint. I have in my head that chip guard aerosol will run you less than 15 bucks, and the clear vinyl stuff will probably be around 30, since you have to buy enough to do the front of a car.

There is also kits for headlights now of the clear vinyl stuff, which might be cheaper. They're made to keep you headlights from turning yellow and that would also be a good solution.

parnold & high desert: Thanks for the info on the sealers. I like the chip guard. I have seen this used on new cars some years ago under the body paint at the lowest part of the body that is susceptible to rock chips. This would be the look I would be going for. It has a very slight texture to it and I want the fenders to have a flat as possible appearance to the paint. I like the price of about $15 for the CG.
My thought is paint it and forget it.
The clear bra stuff offered by body shops, I will pass on that. I don't like the clear vinyl stick on, I'm afraid it will peel off after a period of time.

some of what a local shop is calling 'clear bra' is a spray application. That's the stuff I saw. 2 full years on the front of long haul semis and still looked good. Roughly 250K miles for each truck in that time. Impressive stuff.

Hi everyone: Here is a mini-update for today. I have had an "H" of a time trying to get the counter made up and installed. I screwed up on my measurements as to the proper width to make it. I should remember the measurement is 47 1/4". Duh!!! I was able to save it by adding two 1x2s, one on each side. See, I am human and not a machine. I will admit it when I screw up. I try not to do that to often, screw up that is.





I need to go to HD tomorrow and get the oak boards to make up the face frames for the cabinets for the cabin & galley. I am glad I am about done with the frames for storage compartments. With this part of the build, my brain hurts. Not really, but it takes it out of you. I am tired though.

I love whatever tool it is you guys use to get the screws in at an angle.

Over here I just put them in skew, or countersing by hand and then sink the screws beyond the surface.

You and me too, there is a tool you can get called a Kreg, or similar, there are a few on ebay, but if the surface is hidden or going to be filled over, the pilot hole and countersink with a bigger drill bit works for me

Thanks, grizz & Rigsby: I used my Kreg jig to make up all of the frames for the cabinets. Here is a link for the company. They have some more items that make this type of assembly very quick and strong. http://www.kregtool.com/index.php I used polyurethane construction adhesive along with the pocket hole screws, so it is not coming apart. If you have the right measurements and write them down, you can build about any thing with this set up. There is a couple of clamps that you will need to get to help assembly of your wooden frames as well as the jig to drill the holes. You can buy these tools on Ebay or check the company website for a location to buy one for yourself. I would imagine that this item is available in GB, too. Here the Kreg jig goes for about $100 US. I like their router tables, also. That will be the next thing I get from Kreg. I first bought the Kreg jig to make new kitchen cabinet doors for my house. I have not built the cupboard doors yet because I am having so much fun building the TD. That project got put on hold.
I have made a few mistakes so far but like you said, Rigsby, those have just been design changes that no one will see. I am sure I will make more "Design Changes" before I'm done.

Oh, I forgot to tell you about what came in the mail. I ordered two "seven year" decals for the sides of my TD. These are rated to last up to seven years in the outside environment. I got them in the "blade-runner" font, sized 1" high by 12" long. They are made of silver metal-flake with a black drop-shadow border. You can't see the decals clearly due to the white transfer paper over them. I sent along a request for the maker that I wanted a half size decal also, to go inside my TD. I asked for a quote on the small one, but he did not respond to that request, but when I got the package Saturday morning, there were not one, but two half-sized decals along with the full size ones. He didn't charge me for the small ones.
That's a pleasant surprise for a change.

I went the automotive signage route, but went for two different suppliers, as I wanted the Grizz part of the name to be larger than the Pod part, but having looked at it now, and at your signs, I am having doubts.

I am wondering if I should not create something different and then have it made up over here in 7 year vinyl.

Hi Grizz: I would keep the emblems you have already bought. I would use them on the rear lower part of your hatch. These could be placed on either side of the rear or you could center them on the hatch. I think it is good you use what you have already have. It was your personality that chose them, so let your design ideas flow & go with it. You could get some vinyl decals such as I bought and apply them to the sides of the teardrop. I think a picture of a big old Grizzly bear standing/towering over a TD trailer snarling and ready to attack would be just right for your tear. That way people will know it is a GRIZZ-POD whether you are coming or going. Plus the Bear on the side would be enough to keep shady people away from your TD. "Beware of Guard Bear" !!! Happy Camping...

I guess you are right, however I do like your design a whole load.

My TD will be sides painted and ally roof.
A bit like the photoshop of a different one to what I am building, however, you should get the idea, so I guess the lettering on the rear hatch is going ahead, but the sides will fit in with the Transit bus which should see paint and body over Christmas season this year.

This is my planned final colour/kolor scheme. Along with the Sinclair Oil Corporation logos.
Now I just need a US style "GRIZZ" license plate for the galley.
