A little "Scotty" Diversion...."Finished"

Well I'm back off of the "Sick List" Not 100% but I still spent a day in the shop.

I was having problems getting the Paint I like. So I had to switch Paints in mid stream.

The paint I went to looks a lot more like the original, but I never did like the original.

Moving along...but only at half throttle.

Glad to hear you are feeling a little better. Your progress looks great, I hope that I can do work like that someday. It looks like you used masonite for the exterior roof sheathing and covered it with EPDM. I would like to do that if I can afford it. Do you have any suppliers that you would recommend? Is it cheaper than new aluminum?
Also, I watched some of your tutorial for making your own siding. Do you use trim coil for that? Is it 2-0 wide and what thickness is it? How do you attach the upper overlapping course to the course below?
Sorry for asking so many questions, but this is my 1st trailer project and I am afraid I am in over my head.I understand how busy we all are and I do greatly appreciate any information you might be able to share.

EPDM is probably a little cheaper than aluminum. But what I like about it on larger trailers is that there are no seams and you can run the rubber over the sides and over the siding slightly so that when you install your outside corner you actually have a "Cap over the entire roof so it can't leak.

Also on a larger trailer you can't see the roof so it really doesn't matter what you use.

On a Teardrop you see the roof. Not that EPDM is unsightly, its just not as shiny as aluminum.

Its tough to find a place where you can buy small amounts of EPDM but R V Surplus & Salvage

Is as good as any. They sell a 120X109" piece for about $110 delivered.
Now that's a lot of fabric, what I usually do is plan my piece so that I have enough left over to do a Teardrop with.

And either save the extra for one of my projects or sell it for $50. Its a win, win situation, you cut your cost by $50 and saved the other guy $50 as well.

It is coil stock that I use, I really don't know the exact thickness of coil stock...but its enough.

In the tutorial you can see I make a "Z" bend to hook one piece to another.

Got all the siding done, had to rent a 10' brake from HD...still cheaper than importing siding.

Installed the windows & door frame, don't have the EPDM rubber on the roof.

My next task is replacing broken glass, a little door work door and some wiring.

Then on Wednesday install the EPDM roof and the corner moldings.

Then it goes outside.

Got the roof on and the corner Moldings. (still have to do the insert molding and the roof Termination bars)

Have to make a door hinge that will accommodate a Screen Door as well.

She spent her first night outside since the make-over with her older cousin.







Its not official till the Decals are on.



Some wiring, sand & paint the tongue, make the new hinge and some locks, a little detail work and she's all ready.

The insides are basically done but at the moment I'm storing all the finishing materials/tools inside it.

That should all be done by next weekend then I can clean it, hang some curtains and install the mattresses.

Then we'll take some nice inside photos.

Well for all intensive purposes the Scotty is done. I have a little wiring to do.

Hook up the Propane tank, its already been tested and install a compartment and door lock.

Just a quick note on making your own siding.

As you can see in the last 2 photos the siding is a little flawed.

After a day in the Sun/warm weather everything "Pops" out and all is straight.

I just read this thread from start to finish, and have to add my 2¢ about seasonal allergies. I used to get horrible hay fever every spring, and again in the fall... for about 4 weeks at a time. The cure for pollen allergies is honey, but it must be locally produced honey (the reasons behind this should be plainly evident). About 8yrs ago, my parents made friends with a beekeeper at their church, and ever since, I have gotten quarts of honey as gifts on every occasion. I haven't bought honey in years, but more importantly, my seasonal allergies are truly a thing of the past - important to me, since I have always worked outdoors. Gurl, who is athsmatic, has experienced similar results ever since she was added to my parents' "free honey" list. A teaspoon in a cup of tea, 2-4 mornings a week, and kiss the hay fever good-bye. To be perfectly honest, I don't know how one goes about finding a local beekeeper, but glad I don't have to.
