Hello From South Central Ontario

Specifically Brampton. Been reading a bunch. Great site. I am looking at building a tear drop but I need to stand up in it, (too old to dress laying down) I need R-7.5 insulation with a propane (externally vented) heater for winter\mountain camping. Having owned truck campers before I am looking at putting the bed sideways at the back were the roof slopes down. They want too much for an "R-Pod" so going to tackle one myself. I have settled on a 6'6"x 14 foot bed, single 3500 lb braked axle. (When done I will have a 2003 tent trailer for sale). I still have a months work to do on the wifes Kitchen before she will let me start a new project. Is it realistic to start in April and have my mobile tent ready for Mid July vacation?

my thoughts on this design - build it on a salvaged pop-up tent trailer frame. This design looks good with a 2' to 2'6" straight face frame at the bottom and a modified teardrop trailer body add to the top - which gives you from 5' 11" to 6' 4" head room. I am also thinking of designing this so the cabinet and the pop out can be removed so you can use it as a covered cargo trailer.

I love your design. I like that you are building on s pop up frame. One day we are going to build a standie. I will file this in the back of my mind for the future.

Totally understand the need for a standie. My first camper is a VW. I knew while looking for one that it would have to have a poptop. Ended up taking a poptop off a shell and putting it on a camper bus. So glad I did.

Starting a new project before the Tear so will be a 2-3 month delay. I did see some 4x8 x1/8 sheets of fiberglass boards at my local RONA store this weekend. At $99 a piece I going to buy one and put a top on my utility trailer. If it works I can cover a fibreglass standy for about 600-700 dollars.

It all depends. I built my tear and it was campable in six weeks. I work full time, although I did take a couple days off during that time for the build. I built a fairly simple design, without a lot of the creature comforts, and detail that others have.

If you are retired, I would say it would be no problem at all, if you work full time it's gonna be tight. I also was forced to work outdoors, so I lost a couple weekends to bad weather, and pretty much never worked past dark.

Here is my 3rd build thread. Dates and times are on each post. You will see a standie ( well a slouchy) campable with camping pictures in 5 weekends. I was working as Parnold was , full time , and was washed out with rain 1 day so yes it can be done!
