Can I make a couple suggestions?

1) With all your electrical in there, I would actually drill a couple drain holes in the bottom in the low spots.

2) You may want to add a couple draw latches like I did. I found the lid wanted to lift even with the lock thru the holes.

3) If you are putting your battery in the box, you may want to add a vent on the back side of the box to vent gassed. I just used a 2" round soffit vent I found at Lowes.

4) You may want to mount you charger and fuses on the side wall or the divider so thing don't get stacked on them.


This is just an opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions! The latching situation was the first thing I noticed. I think I'll pick some up a couple draw latches this week.

I was thinking about doing drain holes, but wasnt sure they were necessary. Have you had issues with water getting in your box? I was thinking about getting some foam weatherstripping for the lid if I noticed any water getting in.

Is the venting of the battery in the tongue box THAT necessary? I know if you have your battery in your living quarters (or galley) you really need to vent, but wasnt sure how necessary it would be for the box since it doesnt have an air-tight seal.

As far as the charger and fuses, the shelf that I cut to go over them still allows space for air circulation, and doesnt allow anything to sit directly on them. Also, whenever I'm using the charger, I'll be sure to remove the shelf just in case.

Venting is not just for the hydrogen gas but to get rid of the very slight acid vapor. This will cause corrosion to any exposed metals and eat that bare wood.

Zach venting will also be for excess heat when you drain the battery alot. I had a sail boat that I used a large trolling motor to get around on and at night when I was coming back in would drain the battery alot. First thing I noticed was the heat the trickle charger made when it had to recharge from a near drain.

I have had some water get in it when driving in the rain, but not a lot. I like to error on the side if caution.

I tried putting weatherstripping on my lid and it lasted 1 trip. Being black, it will get very warm on sunny days and the adhesive would keep releasing. I pulled it of and put drain holes in the 4 corners.

If you look closely you can see the main power cut-off in the center of the box toward the top like this one.

I made up a small info card to hand out to curious people that approach me about the Scuttlebutt. I've only had the trailer out a couple times, going from here to there, but have already had a couple people want to know more about it. I wish I would have had these cards then. They're 3"x 4", so I can get (2) out of a precut 4x6 photo sheet.



I'll be sure to keep these handy when stopping anywhere

THE SCUTTLEBUTT DEPARTS FOR ITS MAIDEN VOYAGE IN LESS THAN 2 HOURS!!

I have everything packed but the cooler, and now I'm just waiting for Jessica to get home from work!

Poconos tonight, Woodstock site tomorrow morning, then off to Phoenicia for TEARSTOCK!

There will be MANY pictures once we return! Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

The Scuttlebutt's maiden voyage was a great success! We had a blast! almost 600 miles and not one problem!

Also, when I checked the mail yesterday, I got a sweet surprise!! A package all the way from the UK!! Rian (aka Grizz) was too kind, and put a couple small packages in the mail for me, and I received the second one yesterday!

The first package was a small Scottish Flag, and some Lion Rampant stickers. The stickers made their way to the inside of my doors, and the flag flew proudly at Tearstock this weekend! Here's one of stickers...



The package that I got yesterday contained 2 flags, as well as a pair of blue-dots for my taillights!!!





Didnt take me long to get to work on the taillights...
