Mine is old enough that it is standard USB and it works fine.

It is great to have others to work out with. It one has a scheduled "date".. when your tired.. you are more apt to keep the date. I myself have to be pretty sick to bail.

We encourage and support one another.. and push the heck out of each other... :D

We also have a lot of other group rides we can be a part of.

We feel fortunate :D

New gadget for riding, A Garmin 310XT with heart monitor. I been playing with various GPS and finally settled on the 310 and it came in handy today. Midway through the ride, with wind at 6, two crew pounced. Got back to them when one stopped to pee. Now I know protocol says you don't take advantage of the situation but they showed no concern about my 40 lb bike and thoroughly enjoyed me pulling them for 5 miles...soooo when asked if I was gonna wait, the reply came back F**K Y*U. Yes they were gonna catch me, but I made them work for it. Got well ahead and being in a new place Had no idea where the turn was. Scrolled to the map feature and zoomed in on the track. Left turn in .5 mile. Cool, gadget just paid for itself. Stayed ahead for 3 miles when one announced on the wheel and complained that he had to average 19 to catch me.

Seeing my heart rate was interesting. At fifteen it was pumping at 128 and and pushing against the wind at 18 its showed 158. Ran out of breath before my legs did. Highest was 183, but that was at the beginning of the ride. Generally stayed between 125 and 148 and managed to pull 21 when the wind was at 6.

Averaged 14.4 and will have my Roadie back for the LBS tomorrow.

there are a lot of variable intricacies to the etiquette "stuff". I would have gone on also.. but of course there is sort of pay back for that.. but as you said.. make them earn it... :D

I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 and use it for all of my runs and rides. Too bad it won't work in the water at the pool to give me an idea of my heartrate, because I hate to stop in the middle of a 2 mile swim to check my heart rate.

I have the 305 also.. I use it more for running.. snowshoeing that type of thing. I tend to used my polar pulse monitor and cycle computor.. on my road rides.

I have not been feeling great.. and had a bad gout flare up... I bailed on a work out yesterday. Later in the day it was not quite so painful.. so we were able to make a club ride.

The ride was about 29 miles.. we did about 35.. At any stopping / regrouping spot... instead of just sitting and waiting... we ride back to the last person....

We get more miles that way.. and they enjoy the "company"..

In some places we dawdled .. and others we cranked pretty good.

Tom, Dutch and I did 23 miles today in the vineyard. Broke out early and pulled back. Cruised then Dutch broke away. No worries, relaxed pace and reeled him in. Slowed up to chat. We played bump & run for awhile and I always caught up with him. Tom wasn't feeling well and his legs were stiff so first stop we waited.

Stepped off and chatted with Tom, he felt better as we turned south, wind was at our backs...and went into hammer mode (if you can call rolling 22 "hammering"). With no bike brain, it was all how I felt, played gears to the terrain and kept the spin going. Dropped Tom and within a mile shot passed Dutch. Kept rolling for a few miles and then slowed up, hydrated and waited. Tom showed, I pulled him about 5 miles and then without so much as a thank you, gained some life and bridged to Dutch. Not a problem, my move was coming and spun a slow gain until the final decent. Big cookie push pass Dutch, quick swap to mid ring, and positioned cassette to max ratios on the short climb. Just as Tom crested his cadence dropped and I rolled pass, shifting back to the big ring with less than half a mile to go. Check six and the fight was on. Head down, on the drops and pumping, saw Toms' wheel in the peripheral and heard his lungs screaming. Needed to be one gear higher and knew if I moved ... 200 yards to go, still having game, made the reach and it was over. Tom steamed passed his lungs ready to explode. Dutch pulled in a few minutes later and Tom spent the next 20 minutes hacking pollen out of his lungs. Took Sir Thomas, to his edge, and logged that bit of knowledge for another day.

Doing a lap around Comanche lake with Dutch tomorrow.

One fifteen and one sixteen min ride tonight. Who'da thunk I wouldn't notice my fifteen was up? And this was on short sleep, after a full day cashiering. Go figure.
Jeanne two fifteen min rides and a fifteen min walk! Hooaah!

No exercise yesterday, but today I ; mowed my mother in law's yard, did my 30 min walk (with the piddling 100 meter run added in) and did my resistance workout.
The current workout takes about 45 mins, plus the 30 for the walk, and the days I don't walk and weight train, I only do 30 mins. I'm thinking of movig the walks to the nights I ride. I could ride for 15 min, walk (and run) for 30, then bike another 15. (unless it's raining fire and salt ouside, then I could do an hour's worth of riding, 15 min at a time)
Jeanne's right there with me, 30 min of riding (she can't, at this time, walk far or fast) and resistance training.
She has also taken up a bit of walking, when I'm not around, to try to get her walking ability up so she can one day walk with me.

hmm where was I...

Sunday I was sort of hoping for some distance. we ended up doing 33 miles.. [I had hoped for more] but we did some decent hills.

My gout had spread to my achilles tendon area.. and after working in the heat all day... decided to take Monday off. [all my riding partners had taken a long weekend are were not around either...

Tonight.. a 34 mile hilly ride was scheduled.. and at the last min. it was changed to 26.. We had temps in the 90's today with humidity.. and we would normally have a high still in the 60's..

The tuesday ride has a lot of people of varying speeds. So at times we road with slower people.. and also doubled back for people.. and in other places we got to hammer really hard. It was a great informal interval workout.
The hammering felt really good tonight... :D

We ended up with the 26 miles.. and 18.7 ave..

Can't remember when I posted last, so ....

Sunday I did a 27+ mile ride with family and waited for everyone at certain places, but we had a good time. Wish I could find more people to ride with.

Monday night was a rest day, which meant I worked on everyone's bicycles. Replaced standard pedals with cages for them to try and they want to go back to standard pedals. Not comfortable to clip in or have cages. Put two cyclo computers on two different bikes. Adjusted rear deraileur on a old Peugot that kept slipping the chain. Adjusted seats on two of the 8 bikes.

Today was a 20 mile bike ride, followed by a .7 mile swim then off to dinner with the family.

Today two 8.5 min rides with a 30min walk (with short run) between, for a total of 47 min. (that's how long the single set resistance workout takes) Also 3 and a quarter hours of working on the motorcycle (which, according to the website I found that gives calories usage for various activities taking your weight into consideration, burned more calories than my workout)

Wed. night we had a meeting. I had hoped to get a mountain bike ride in before hand.. but did not make it.

Last night Matt and Bobbie bailed, and Greg Bailed. Greg's wife came on her single bike [she did not know that Matt was not coming.] she is slower and knew she would hold us back. We were ok with it. We will probably be riding alone all weekend... and an easy ride would probably do us good.

I think we ended up with 26 something miles.. at 16.2 mph ave.

I got to work on relaxing on the downhills.. trying to lower my pulse. Not being near max to start with.. but I could fairly easily get it down to the upper 60's. I did get to spend some time at 62.. and briefly saw a 61.

I was at first thinking of doing a 40-50 mile road ride tonight.. but wanted to spend less time. So I opted for a mountain bike ride. It is easier to get a more intense ride in a short amount of time on a mountain bike.. especially on the trails I have out back. There is a lot of hills.

I was out about an hour and a half. I did a wide variety of things.. but there is a section I like to hammer.. and I time trial it.. recover then do it again.

In the past I just do it.. and have not timed myself. I thought it was time I started. My first time I did it in 5:38. my ave pulse 162 my max 171.

My second time around I did it in 5:20.... my 3rd 5:15..

In this loop it is not just fitness.. that shortens ones time. There is handling also. If I go to fast.. and screw up a turn.. it costs me time.. If I get my pulse to high.. then you are more apt to screw up.

Or if one is not sufficiently recovered before a hill.. you don't make it up the hill. It is not just a matter of blowing up and going slow.. it means your walking.

The worse hills are towards the end of the loop. they have a fast downhill with a steep technical uphill right after. The last one the worst of all. In the past I have had to use momentum and the middle chain right to get up the first steep [loose] section. Then fitness wise to make the rest of the climb I would have to shift down to the small ring.

This time I was able to keep it in the middle ring all the way. :wakka wakka: :wakka wakka:

My first time around I kept it in the middle ring all the way around. The last two.. there were sections I used the large chain ring. It might have been the first time I have used the large chain ring in years... :D

I am starting to get some fitness back... :D :D
