schaney wrote:Gil, Thanks, my Explorer Pod weighs around 425 lbs, check out my build thread at Explorer Pod. Haven't had the Sidekick on a scale, the specs show it weighing in around 2700 lbs. Mileage has been 20-26 mpg, does fine towing on the flats, but you notice the extra weigh behind it in the mountains and with a strong headwind.

Yeah, my Jeep weighs about double what your Sidekick weighs, and my converted Cargo Trailer weighs about 1300 loaded. Mileage is 13.5 if I keep it below 65. It pulls the hills pretty well, but you can tell you are pulling a load when you go over the passes at 55.

OK.. First post.. Have a 5' wide utility trailer I plan on building a camper on, and here is my tow rig.

It has a pintle hook, but my other tow rigs have a 2 inch ball. Does anyone have a system to switch from pintle hook to ball easily?

Yes.. That would be a solution. I bookmarked that one. Thanks!

I am reluctant to go more UN-original on my tow rig (I still do parades and stuff). Is there a easy swap out system for the tongue of the trailer?

on the trailer side, you could replace the existing coupler with a receiver tube, then attach different couplers to 2" square tube so you can swap em out like a hitch.

Beautiful country schaney. Still waiting for the mountain trails here in northern utah to open up, we got a lot of snow this year.

Yes, I love having a place like this within an hours drive.

On the North side, in the trees just up the road, had a lot of snow to deal with, makes towing the trailer interesting

I used to live in Aumsville, and did a lot of exploration of the mountain roads around Detroit Lake. I recognized the old stomping grounds even before you mentioned where it was.

Yes, I spend a fair amount of time up that way exploring. I'm in South Salem, out in the country.

Then you most likely remember some of my favorite falls in the area Sullivan and Henline?

Ahh, yes. Great pics! I don't remember seeing those falls with so much water in them. Probably because I was there later in the year.

A new tow vehicle is being built ...

I will be building a smaller off road trailer capable of handling the mighty 55 hp that the Samurai produces :?
