Newbie from SoMD thanks to Hiker Chick

Postby arthuruscg » Wed Jun 02, 2010 12:08 pm

Hello,
My wife and I ran into Hiker Chick and are now looking a teardrop to go camping with our 5 week old baby boy.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to construct one or the money for a CampInn, so we are looking for a Little Guy.

The hard part is picking a 5 (my choice) or 6 (wifes choice) wide.

With a growing baby go with the 6-wide.

We've been tent camping with a baby after 6 weeks. That was years ago. I have the little guy sport. The one with the large cargo area in the front. I love it for storage but that's a personal point. If you have a decently good vehicle. Truck/SUV or theirabouts the 6 wide tracks really nicely. Can't even tell it's there. I have a Tahoe.
We have a spa miracle foam queen sized bed in ours. It gives us about a foot of room on one side of the floor. That would be enough for some sort of baby bed I'd assume.
Conform and be dull.

My tow vehicle is a 08 Subaru Outback, so the 6wide will stick out a good bit and i will have to find extended mirrors.

For the time being we have a 1' by 2' packable hard foam basset that would work for the little dude to sleep in.
If I get the trailer with out any cabinets, i was thinking about making a shelf where the inside cabinets would be to function as a bunk bed and use mesh netting to stop him from rolling out.

When he gets older, 3-4ish he could sleep in the tent that attaches to the side of the little guy.

It was very nice to meet you and your wife. But Gidget's getting a little put out that people are coming into the campsite to see the teardrop and not her. On the other hand, she excitedly accepts the belated acknowledgment.

She's just not accustomed to being upstaged. Testament to the Power of the Teardrop.

Arthur did not mention my somewhat perplexed look when we first met. I had pulled up to the registration booth at the campground and they were standing there and said he liked my "Little Guy." I was surprised because most people I meet don't know what a teardrop is and none know that mine's a Little Guy (there's no LG decal on it anywhere).

So that was unusual enough. Then while I'm setting up my campsite a 5-wide Little Guy pulls in. That was only the third other teardrop I've seen. Quite a coincidence.

Hopefully we'll run into you all again at Big Meadows and you can give me a teardrop tour.

Our TV is an OBW 01 H6 and our tear 6' wide. Stock mirrors do work, sort of, with a bit of neck craning, so we will be picking up a pair of clip on extensions. The stock mirrors then are aimed at the trailer tires.

Yes go with the 6' wide this will give you some room to set up some sort of blocking to prevent rolling over on the baby (one of the BIG dangers in sleeping with a baby in your bed).

Welcome, and +1 on the 6 wide.

I'm 6'4" and the extra width equates to extra length as well with just a slight diagonal turn of the body. Something I couldn't do without the extra shoulder room.

Your first kid, my kids slept with us for a long time. At 3/4 the kids are usually still spooked easily and the outdoors has plenty of spook to go around. So I imagine the kid will not sleep out in the tent. If I tried taht my wife would send me packing to the tent.

Well, I am still not an owner of a Little Guy yet.

We are defiantly going to with a 6 wide and just waiting until one shows up on craigs list or ebay near by.

I saw on LG website the new sun roof option. It looks like it would help if you are claustrophobic bc it is located and would allow for great star gassing in bed. I hope it can be retro fitted.
