Dead Battery

Postby Christina » Tue Jun 01, 2010 1:02 pm

Hello. I think I need to replace my TD's battery (it died over the winter  ). It is a Transcontinental sealed rechargeable valve regulated lead acid battery. It runs just the lights, a few 12-volt plugs and a small fan. Should I look for the same kind, or does anyone have a battery that they just love? Any other recommendations? There is a charger included with the battery, but it seems to take a very long time to charge up the battery (over 8 hours).

Any deep cycle battery should work fine for what you power off of it.

btw; deep cycle batteries charge slowly. I put the 6 amp charger on mine and it never draws more than 3.

8 hours is not slow for charging a VRLA type battery; 13 hours or so is normal for a depleted battery. The simple thing is to get a battery with about the same AH rating. Your battery ampacity should be about 10x your charger's charge rate for optimal battery charging. So if the charger is rated 3A, you should have about a 30AH battery. This is all loosy-goosy and +/-20% is no big deal. What you want to avoid is a big mismatch between charger and battery, like a 10A charger on a 20AH battery.
In anything at all, perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away.

Having looked at a lot of information I prefer the Lifeline AGM www.lifelinebatteries.com mostly because of the lack of need for attention/stores well
