Dave
I made this roof rack out of EMT, and oak planks, then slide the changing room bar, which is also EMT, along the top of the planks thru small EMT clamps as guides

Nice job Dan. How did you attach the rack to the roof?

The question I have is the changing rooms, something you envisioned while building your trailer, or was it an afterthought after taking it camping a few times. Seriously thinking of adding a roof rack and changing rooms slides to my build.

That is the the evil thing about this site, so many ideas and possibilites, not enough time.

Cliff,
This is what we had envisioned a while back, attach it to one of the doors and that way the kids could sleep in the tent and us in our cozy bed. Yet I was thinking on teh other side of the trailer we could have a bathroom tent. I still may, and a roof rack with a built in slide out changing room set up would be nice and quick. will put it to the kids this weekend and see what they think.

I've put a lot of thought in how I might attach a changing room or even sew up a modification to some different tents I have so that they might attach to the side of the TD. But, my experience with wind in Oklahoma always come back to the same thing..... I don't want anything attached to the TD since its probably going to pull out screws and everything else attaching it.

I remember one late November deer hunting trip to western Oklahoma with a pop-up tent trailer we had at the time. We arrived on a beautiful Friday afternoon with temps in the 50's & not a cloud in the sky. We set up and attached the canvas side awning to the popup and staked everything down. During the night, things changed to a howling wind and blizzard conditions, the thermometer showing 15 degrees. The wind blew the canvas to the point that the screws attaching the rail on the side of the trailer were literally pulled out, the canvas ripped and the poles flat on the ground. I hate the thought of that happening to my new TD and the gouges the poles would make to the walls when they went down.

The problem for me is, this kind of wind and weather change in my area is not all that unusual. Sorry for the long explanation, but here is my simple and cheap solution:

Besides the changing room we have a quik shade that is 10' x 10' that has a side wall that raises to cover 10' more. We plan to have the TD covered by the sidewall and we have netting and sides for the quik shade. We plan on usig the changing room for the porta john and to change in when we have company.

Aw thank you, thank you very much.

As a side note, Here's my sister's side room. I just finished installing it (in tight quarters).

Well, I found it here in the 'FOR SALE' section. A forum member had posted it and I jumped on it. :) And if I tell you how much I paid for it, I'd have to kill you. ;)

P.S. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any more. He's also closer to you than he is to me.
