Lets Talk iPad

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I, too have, an Iphone, MacBook Pro, etc...and love them. I use Mobile Me to sync them all. An IPad will never replace any of them...but I acquired an Ipad for couch surfing...like this forum...and movie watching...in the car for the kids...and in the tear. The 9 plus hours I get from a single charge is awesome! We came up with a holder to hang in the tear...and it worked awesome on last weeks 4th of July camping trip!

Image

The "frame" has hooks on the back so hangs on the shelf rail. Of course it can be moved outside if you choose. My brother and I were shooting startrails at midnight up at the lake...and a movie was nice!

I got the 3G and only activated it last week as we'll be traveling and the connectivity will be nice. It's in Speck-like case and is pretty sturdy.

The mobile me syncing also is an automatic backup too.

I watched the Keaneu Reeves version of the Day the Earth Stood Still the other day and they are holding this "Futuristic" device with a little WindowsXP and Intel sticker on it like they always have, and I laughed and said out loud, nice iPad! Apple creates the future. It is not a full fledged desktop, but it is not marketed that way or meant to be. It has it's place, it is marketed as a huge iPod, which is exactly what it is... I want one. I will probably never have one, but I see their usefulness, and this is just Rev A...

I find it interesting that Apple Laptops and Desktops use Intel processors now too, but you'll never see that cheesy sticker on the computer. I just find that interesting.

Makes you wish you bought Apple stock in 1996 when it was $6 a share eh...

Sorry I used to Work for Apple so I sometimes get on a roll.

OH.. Here is the iPad Keyboard options.. wireless, or on screen :)

Brilliant!
Though I'm not sure I'd be trusting the magic of velcro on a motorbike! :)

I've got the 3Gs iPhone and love it. I wish for an iPad but I'm not seeing one in the near future. They look fun!

It's Bluetooth. They have a case too that is in the right photo that protects the display and doubles as a lap-stand. (Insert salivation icon here)

I don't have one but I've tried it at the apple store. Steve Jobs said that you have to handle it to appreciate it.. he called it magical. I must admit that he's right. I won't get one now but I WILL have to have one eventually. The screen is so crisp. And it's the first one of this type to be fast. Touching items brings almost immediate response. Apple put this new A4 processor in it and I think bought the company afterwards. The processor is in the new iphone and rumors are that Apple is prepping a very small device, based on the same processor, for our TV's that will do for Video and television what the ipod did for music. Cool stuff.

I just bought one of these. With 20% discount, and $20 rebate it cost 129.00. Only been playing with it for about an hour now. My favorite thing is I can take the SD card out of my camera and preview my pictures in a larger format. 6 hour battery time is what the specs say. Also links to Barnes & Noble, so I can load it up with books. It was just released today!

It's not an Ipad, but I was looking mainly for a reader, and something to view my photos, which an Ipad won't read an SD card directly. The price was sweet too.

I have a 32 GB Itouch. We used them for class at UF. I love it. Download books to listen to, also my photos. Have neat apps on it and also receive email on it. Neat little thing.

My daughter received the Ipad from her work place, and I fell in love with it. But can't justify buying it with owning the Storm phone, netbook and computer also.

Guess I won't be buying anything else for awhile. Seems they always come out with something better though.

iPad is the finest Apple device ever!!!

Postby myoung » Tue Aug 24, 2010 1:53 am

Well, at least until they create something entirely new and unexpected.

I guess you'd call me an Apple fanboy. We currently own Apple stock, a 17-inch PowerBook G4, a 15-inch MacBook Pro, a 24-inch iMac, Apple TV, an iPhone 3GS, an iPhone 4, an iPad, an Apple router and repeater, 3 iPods, 2 iPod Shuffles, and iPod Touch, 2 iPod Nanos, and an Apple BoomBox.

We bought the Mac back in 1984 and have owned about 5 or 6 other models over the years. I bought my first Wang 2200 mini computer in 1976 and wrote my first computer programs in CORC and CUPL back in 1963. Did I also mention that I'm old?

I've had a software company and retired as CIO of a subsidiary of a major bank five years ago. With all this history, I believe that I can say that the iPad is the finest product Apple has every delivered. Heck, its the finest computer ever.

There are many reasons for my claim, but let me just cite two that speak to the greater Apple ecosystem. First, as others have mentioned, all our mobile and desktop devices are synchronized via MobileMe. Email, calendar, address book, and bookmarks are updated almost immediately and wirelessly from any device. With the iPad and the iPhone 4, I jump back and forth reading books on both devices. Much to my delight and amazement, the iPad and the iPhone 4 books are synchronized too. I never have to bookmark or otherwise have to keep track of where I left off.

Second, the iPad starts instantaneously, which makes it especially handy to carry around relative to the laptop. I know that people say that this will never replace the laptop, but don't bet your retirement savings on that statement. With inexpensive software, you can access and control your desktop computer from almost anywhere in the world. I have a friend who needed some files from his office computer in New York while at a business meeting in Germany recently. Right from the meeting he opened the iPad, connected to his office computer, and controlled the computer to get the files he needed. Certainly, you could do this with a laptop, but with this 1.5 pound marvel the task is quick, easy, and even fun.

Tomorrow, I will even use my iPad to deliver a lecture at ASU created on both my iMac, my MacBook Pro, and my iPad all using Apple's Keynote software. Clearly, the iPad is business-ready right out of the box.

The Ipad is certainly light years ahead of the competition in this arena so far. My tablet is slooooooow compared to an Ipad. Since I purchased it mainly as a reader, I'm not too concerned with the speed.

However.. the amazing Kreskin predicts, that the Android tablets will soon catch up or come close to the Ipad, and just like the Droid style phones, will start giving Apple some real competition. Syncronizing everything isn't that big of a trick, my droid phone syncs with my email, address book, calendar already. Moth of my important docs are all stored on the cloud already, so automatically synced on any of the four computers that I use on a regular basis.

I'm no lover of Microsoft for sure, and I'm hoping that soon Android becomes a low level operating system to compete with Windows on laptops, and home PC's.

Is the wireless bluetooth, or wifi?

Mike...

Actually, it is both depending upon what you do. Access to the internet, etc. is wifi on all six models (3 with wifi only and 3 with wifi plus 3G). The keyboard in the photo could be either the standard Apple wireless keyboard that is connected to the iPad via Bluetooth or the keyboard and dock combination that plugs into the standard 30-pin connector, serves as a stand in portrait orientation, and can be plugged into ac for charging. You can see this dock combination in use on the CNBC TV show "Fast Money," for example.
