Well, yesterday I decided to fix the flat tire for myself...

I got the tire off the rim without too much trouble and retrieved the tube...

I put some air in the tube and submersed it in a pail of water...yep. there's that dang hole...

I went to Walmart to buy a patch for the tube...boy it sure has been a while since I patched a tube...I was lookin' forward to playing matches and burning the glue and all...

well, the patches these days don't require you burn anything..just peel and stick..

After patching the tube, it took about an hour to get the damn tire back on to the rim...geez...I said lot of bad words... :o

Well, I went out this morning and guess what...that dang tire was flat again...I think maybe I should just buy a new mower...

I wonder just how many people get frustrated with little repairs and the mower end up on the berm for cleanup week. Ive been eyeballing a new mower but there are things I need worse so Im in repair mode. I feel your pain... :(
I ordered new blades 2 weeks ago and they came in yesterday. too bad they were the wrong ones. I guess I wait another 7 to 10 days..I wonder how many times I can get the neighbor to mow my grass??

Did you by any chance look at the tire to see if what ever caused the flat in the first place was still there? (sticker, glass, nail, screw)

Yea I did...I even ran my bare hand around inside the tire looking for something to "stick" me, but found nothing... It is rather perplexing... :?

I plan to give it another try. I may have punctured the tube trying to get the dang tire back on the rim.

Just a thought, can you fill the tire with something like foam so you will never have another flat?

Bicycle stores sell something called Slime. I tried it in a wheelbarrow tire. It helped, but didn't stop the slow leak completely. The wheelbarrow takes about a month to go flat.

I had a similar problem with a dolly wheel. I struggled with that thing for hours. Finally, I took the whole thing down to the local Tractor Supply store and me and one of the store guys changed all 4 tires to "solid rubber" tires. I don't know why the manufactures even put inner tube type wheels that size on anything.

I haven't had to worry about any flats...and its been about 6 years.

I had a bad wheel barrow tire. Went to TSC for a new wheel&tire - figured go with the 'full meal deal'. Ended up getting the 'solid' never-flat tire - whoowee, them things are spendy! BUT..... it'll never go flat. The old wheel barrow will rust away, the wood will rot, but it'll have a good wheel&tire.
I'm no 'tire newbie' either - got the Harbor Freight tire changer gadget, complete with motorcycle tire adapter - it paid for itself the first four MC tire changes.

But I doubt it'll work on the small mower tires.......

For us motorcycle riders, "Ride-On TPS" is even better than Slime. Google it up, and you should find a vendor.

Been there, done that!

I finally went to the Sears outlet/repair and ordered a new rim; tire and all!

Ok guys, I went over to the Advance Auto store and bought some "slime" tire stuff. I put about half a bottle in my mower tire and aired him up. I mowed the lower yard and the tire was still holding air. I will let you know if it's still holding air in a few days.

Knock on wood...Slime just may have whopped that leaky lawn mower tire...

The tire is still holding air with no sign of leaking...

Steve, be sure to spin the tire occasionally, so the Slime gets everywhere.
