Hi from Reno

Postby Bee lady » Wed Jul 21, 2010 5:33 pm

We have a large class A motorhome but wanted something different for our cross-country trip that we could take off road. I did very little research and made a quick purchase on a 4' wide bare bones Little Guy teardrop. Once home, I realized I did not feel comfortable driving 5000 miles pulling something with tiny trailer tires. Luckily, I happened to have a few spare HUGE mud n snow tires for my full size pickup. I ended up putting a lift kit, new sub frame, new axel and other cool stuff on the trailer. The trailer looks outrageous and we LOVE it!! We named it the Little GuyZILLA. He is 7 feet tall and barely fits in the garage. I'll try to figure out how to post photos In a while so you can all laugh at my unreasearched folly.
Take care!!!

Welcome Bee Lady. There are several members here in the northern Nevada area these days, at least 3 with builds going on right now. Look forward to seeing your GuyZILLA, sounds like fun!

Hi Bee lady welcome to the forum, I learned all about bees at this IRG. It all stemmed from the simple question, "where did that plywood come from?"

We stopped in (more like near) Reno on our way back to Colorado.

Yup, there is getting to be a regular subgroup here in Northern NV. We are out in Lovelock, 90 miles to your east in our homebuilt. Went camping last weekend at Davis Creek Campground, and just came back from Reno today after the birth of our new grandson, Caleb! We did more tours last weekend at a half full small campground than we did the whole week we went camping at Zion and Bryce over Easter. Welcome aboard, you'll have a great sail! :P

Hi to Reno from a newb in the area

Postby atahoekid » Sat Jul 24, 2010 3:04 am

From reading the thread it sounds like there are a few teardrops in the Northern Nevada area. I'd heard about them and finally saw a home built teardrop while out camping last weekend (I'm so tired of a tent). Well that got my mind going and I'm thinking of building a fattie of a teardrop. Something about 6 x 10 about 5' tall. I've got a truck so size shouldn't be a problem. It will be built for all seasons and some mild off roading. But the wife says I gotta finish the home projects first (bathroom remodel, entertainment center, doors on the china cabinet, new handrails on the stairway) so it's going to be a while before I start the build but while I'm working I can dream a bit and start putting thoughts and ideas down on paper. Looking forward to doing some more exploring on the forum

yes, there are 8-10 of us now. 3 or 4 are finished/commercial builds, the rest are in process builds.

Hi back!!

Postby Bee lady » Sat Jul 24, 2010 4:49 pm

Awesome to hear there are some locals. I was amazed at the comments we received during our latest trip. The GuyZILLA went with us from Reno to upstate New York, then down to Texas and back home. Every place we stopped , be it a campground, national park or a starbucks drivethrough, someone had comments or questions about the trailer. I can only imagine what people say about the custom builts! These campers seem to be great ice breakers!!!
Thanks for the warm welcome!!!

Hey Debbie and Randy, No sawdust yet but the trailer frame steel has been bought and I'll find out tomorrow if any welding has been done! Looking to have it ready by months end. :worship: Then...sawdust.
