Well, I guess I am just an old timer, but can't even think of any inked likeness that I would like to have on my body forever. As far as piercings go, if I go into a restaurant that has a waitress with a pierced tongue, I get up and walk out. Can't quiet enjoy a nice meal, with stuff clicking between her teeth, as she asks me if I want more coffee. Sorry about that. However, I hope you enjoy your adornments, I for one, will probably never get inked. I guess it is a bit much, and I have trouble enough dealing with age spots on my arms. Long live tatooed folks, for they will someday inherit the earth.............hopefully, long after I am gone. This was a good thread, I'm glad someone did it.

I don't have any ink either, and only ear piercings. I don't care for other facial piercings -- but that's a sexy back shown up above! ;)

I've avoided my first piercing and tattoo because I never could figure out where to stop. Seeing other people I meet I've seen that some of them couldn't figure out the stopping place either.

So this is an honest question I'm asking only those who are inked or pierced.

How do you know you've reached that point?

I really would like to understand.

See, I know me. When I got into teardrops I didn't stop until I owned every vintage teardrop article I could afford. I have several thousand dollars invested in making sure I owned all I could. I've invested almost 500.00 in early Sears catalogs alone just to make sure I owned a Sears catalog selling a teardrop. Most proved fruitless, and I resold some of them, but Sears did offer one on page 701 of the 1937 Spring /Summer catalog. The Gad-About was offered for 179.50. I also didn't stop buying trailers until I owned 8 of them and my wife said she would leave me when I bought another one. I'm gonna miss her.

So THAT is why I ask the question. And that is why I never got my first tattoo, took my first drink, or smoked my first joint. I know me.

I'm with Roly on this one...that makes me hurt...why do you guys and gals want to go through all that pain?

Our youngest daughter had her tongue pierced. I never could understand WHY...she has always been a good looking girl with tons of friends. She could never explain it to me.
I am not a complete idiot, some parts are missing...

When I was a kid growing up in an entirely Italian neighborhood. All the "GUYS" always told us to never get a Tattoo...Because "they" can identify you from it.

I was afraid to not listen, ya never wanted to get those "GUYS" mad at you and I listened.

I've thought about it, but some of those "GUYS" are still alive.

My daughter when she was younger got a piercing. It upset me a bit but I always knew she could take it out.

Its been gone for years now...If it were a Tattoo it would still be there.

Happy Trails

No ink or extra holes here either...call me old fashioned. Also, I don't think it's something you should see on doctor/vet/etc. (just MY opinion of course) Even at my weekend job, the police department has banned all exposed tattoos. I have friends that have to wear long sleeved shirts year round, even in 100 degree heat, because of tattoos on their arms.

But I don't begrudge a person's desire to do it to him/her self.

The problem with tattoos today is that people (especially the younger ones) don't think about the long term effects. First before i begin - I do have tattoos - got them over twenty years ago. You have to realize that these things are permanent and you often don't know what your life or lifestyle will be down the road. Mine are hidden and not usually shown unless my shirt is off (and you don't want to see that - believe me) I cringe when I see all those nice cute little girls with small of the back tattoo peaking out from behind the shorty shorts - yep, that's SEXY - until you reach an age where the sexy is now sagging! Some just don't think that far ahead!

It would be interesting to see a pic of a 20 or 30 year old tatoo (perhaps without a face showing). I've always wondered how much the tatoo or the body changes. The lower back, as you mentioned -- that doesn't really sag much. But does a 50 or 60 year old still want it? I really don't know what today's younger set will feel. Maybe they'll still love the ink!

If you look reeeeaaaaaallll close at my avatar, I have my jewelry in, although I don't wear it much now. I have 6 holes in my left ear, and 1 in my right ear. All the holes except for one were made in the last 8 years.

I will have to post pics of my tattoos, I have two on each arm, starting in 1981 and the most recent was about 4 years ago. The latest two tattoos, on my forearms are designs of my own, and represent my children.

I have never regretted any of the tattoos (certainly not nearly as much as I have regretted my three marriages!)

inks and holes

Postby queeniejeanne » Thu Sep 09, 2010 3:29 pm

I was aged before I got my first one, then another, then another.......not hard to stop; but I figure if it sags, its a colorful sag now instead of just sagging. Anyway, where mine are it doesn't sag, if you know what I mean......will post pics later still wanting to finish and enhance one of my others....

I had my tat removed but here an old photo. It was much more fun having it put on.

Wanna see the photos after the first laser session. It's not pretty.

Warning: Pretty gross photo will appear if you click this link.

WOW--OUCH! Looks like you used the tattoo remover from the SNL clip!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.
