Hi everyone.

This is the place where you can introduce yourself, and include a photo if so desired.

Hi everyone.

My name is Clint. I am an avid backpacker and tent camper. A new relationship has prompted me to look into getting a camper so she doesn't have to sleep on the ground. A co-worker sold me his second hand home built teardrop and I fell in love with them. I have been lurking here for a while and have really enjoyed following your builds.

A little about mine. It is 4'x8' and very primitive. It is made of treated plywood with aluminum siding and the top is the plastic bathroom wall material from the big orange store.

My plans are to start from scratch with the trailer frame and rebuild it entirely with a galley, windows, and doors on each side. I am thinking of using Pergo or real hardwood flooring on the interior and skinning the outside with aluminum. I have a lot more reading here to do before I decide.

A little about me. I am a career Firefighter/EMT for a medium sized city. In my time off I enjoy offroading, paddling, hunting, fly fishing, and working with my bird dogs. So far my favorite camping has been riverbank camping from my canoe and primitive camping from my Dual-Sport motorcycle. I like to camp all across the country but spend a lot of time on the White and Buffalo rivers in Arkansas.

Thank you both. I will begin a build thread shortly. I am currently working on getting 2 other toys out of the shop so I can begin this one. It will be a winter build. Once I start a project I get knee deep and don't want to let up. I have a couple weddings and birthdays to attend so I will probably begin the tear down in about 3 weeks.

Hi Clint,
For the floor of you TD(assuming it is a TD) most of the floor is covered with the mattress so spending money on hardwood floors is a waste for the inside, if you want a nice floor in the galley you can lay that floor later. Most folks put in inexpensive flooring and use the saved money for a good mattress.
Though if the flooring you have is already bought or free, you can't go wrong using it.

You can build it how you want just have fun and take your time and ask questions.

We will get you hooked on other addictions such as Coleman lanterns and stoves and Cast Iron Cooking

Welcome

Hi Clint: I want to say hey and welcome. You have taken the first step by coming out from behind the curtain, so to speak. You will find that everyone on here is willing to give you good solid advice as you progress along on you TD.

I am a Master Auto Tech (33 years) as well as an EMT-B (Basic). You will find the building of your TD a very enjoyable and a stress relieving endevor and you will become addicted to it. I hope you have fun and post a lot of pictures. When you start building, start a build thread (Build Journal) and let us see how you are doing as it goes along. It takes a lot of planning as you go, but take your time and if you don't know how to solve a problem, just ask and someone will be able to help you. You have heard two heads are better than one. Well a couple thousand heads are better than TWO.

Any plans as to what shape or style you might build? You might want to build an offroad TD that sets higher than a regular TD. Since you like to get out in the back woods, this would be a good choice for you.

Anywho, Welcome, have fun and keep us posted... :applause:

rbeemer, I think I will heed you advice on the floor. Linoleum is probably the way to go and I am sure I could get a large enough piece from the leftovers bin.

Still a lot of reading and planning ahead of me.

Welcome to the forum Clint. There is a growing number of us in the area.
If you got the time try to make it down to Crawford this weekend and see a few Tears up close. That will help you decide what you want to do with yours in the rebuild.

Hope to meet up with you down the road soon.

Gary

Here's the link to the sticky about Crawford it you haven't seen it yet.
