Hey Loader.....guess I did not realize it was your recipe for the Pablano peppers in the DO. Tried them last night and WONDERFULLLLLLLL !!!!!

Just looked at your photo and kind of 'winged it' the rest of the way but they were delicious! Actually cooking a peach cobbler in it today (Sunday) for desert....with the leftovers from last nites pepper dish.

THANKS again!!

Sorry guys....they can be tough to find...patience Grasshoppah! It runs hot and cold. Kevin outbid me on one, called me up to gently rub it in...and when I asked if it was the one in the bay area, he answered yup! We were bidding against each other on it...but the next one up...missing a handle I picked up for 10$ + shipping. A 1/4 20 7" bolt and a piece of dowel...voila! Besides...the longer handles are much more user friendly. I don't think anyone bid on it since it was missing a handle...easy fix.

Another advantage to them...if you don't want the full blown cast iron waffle maker...this makes up waffle sticks easily, sans meat, and is much easier to pack.

Keep your eyes open and don't get carried away...there's going to be another down the road. Oh!...gotta go...my crispy golden waffle corn dog is just done! ;) Doug

For what it's worth, I'm planning to go to about $30 plus shipping.

Glad you enjoyed them. I have yet to get a "perfect" cobbler yet, maybe one of these days.

Did some online patent searching:

Sweeney, from 1929 describes the basic concept of a stovetop weiner-in-a-waffle but the shape is different than the current design. More like a corn dog with divots.

Patent number: 1875277
Filing date: Feb 11, 1929
Issue date: Aug 1932

http://www.google.com/patents?id=u9RuAA ... le&f=false

Hicks, from 1954 describes the current style waffle dog, but using an electric heating element to cook three at a time. He doesn't reference Sweeney's patent- only various electrical cookers.

Patent number: 2696161
Filing date: Aug 4, 1952
Issue date: Dec 7, 1954

Both address issues of venting moisture, heating the meat, preventing soggy dough. Interesting reading!

Here is my corn dog batter recipe..

1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
salt & pepper to taste (about 1/4 tsp of each?)
1 egg
1 1/4 cups milk

After all isn't this what we are talking about.

We have had deep fry nights on several outings.

What about mini corn dogs Just cut the full dog in 4ths. Dip and Deep fry then serve on a large tooth pic.

One deep dark secret I have learned is to dust the damp dogs first with corn starch to help the batter adhere. Works like primer before paint.

Great with cocktail sausages also.

What if you were to try a pie iron and a portion of the dog split and layed flat in the batter.

Just think out side the bun :D

Don't forget to check the auctions on shopgoodwill.com. I frequently see cast iron on there. I haven't seen a waffle dogger as of yet. Then again I wasn't looking previously.

There was another one last month too. I was willing to pay more than it sold for but couldn't get logged in to bid between the time I got an email saying I was outbid and the auction close. It ended up going for less than $2 more than my bid.

If I don't get the one currently on eBay I'm thinking of posting a "wanted" ad on some of the cast iron or vintage cookware forums.
