12 volt blanket

Postby southpennrailroad » Sat Oct 09, 2010 6:22 am

I bought one of those 12 volt blankets several years back and finally able to use it. It works great for under another blanket. Get to sleep real good. I like this time of the year. I now sleep 8 hours instead of the 4 on 4 off and 4 on again. It helps get me back on the sleep routine. Even after the timer shuts the blanket off I sleep fine until morning when I get to turn it back on while I play on the lap top. I am now thinking of getting one of those mattress pads to get the bed warmed up before crawling into it. Maybe get a timer for it to turn on an 1/2 hour before getting into bed.

If you get the heated mattress pad , you will probably get rid of the elec. blanket. The mattress pad keeps you much warmer than the blanket as all the heat from the pad is trapped by a sheet & blanket on to of you. A elc. blanket looses heat from being on top of you & having to penetrate down thru a sheet & blanket under its self. It also will warm the mattress as you said before bed. Get one & ENJOY!! :) :) :)

I agree/we agree. A heated mattress pad is much more effective than an electric blanket for the reasons mentioned. Ours is A/C not D/C, however.

have any of you found a queen sized 12volt mattress pad? I thought I saw one once, but haven't been able to find it again. All I find are the small, truck cab bunk size. We have a 120v one at home and the wife loves it so I need to find her one for the teardrop before we go anywhere.

Electrowarmth quit making the queen size bunk warmer a couple years ago. I'm unaware of any queen size replacements. Would be good to know.

We might be forced to run an AC mattress warmer on an inverter.

Electrowarmth was the supplier for the 12V Full and Queen sizes,
as was mentioned, now only make a single

Have mentioned the popularity of the Queen and Full and the new market building among the Teardroppers and TTT enthusiasts, but I guess there just aren't enough of us asking....About once a year I get a request from them for input from loyal customers, I always mention us TDer's

Maybe if everyone interested, would send a request for the full and queens to be put back in the catalogue.....

I know mine won't last for ever and I would like to have a replacement available, heck I would have bought two if I knew in advance they were going to stop manufactureing them

I wonder how long a battery would last using the inverter for the night? That of course would mean the inverter would be on all night. Mine is noisy.

I tried that, my mattress pad won't even attempt to run on an inverter. Have tried several, none of them will power it, I know it is not too much draw, must be the electronics of the thermostat.

We use hot water bottles to pre warm our bed. Works great. Just add hot water and place between the sheets about 30 min before bed. When you crawl in you have a nice warm bed. depending on how much of the bed you want to warm just add a couple of more hot water bottles. We found that the bottles last all night long. No draw on the battery.

Thanks but this won't help as I use a generator anyway in keeping the fridge running computer and other stuff in the trailer including the charging of the battery so I am better off using what I am charging anyway. I guess I was hoping for a mattress heating pad which ran off a battery. Maybe I will just buy another heating 12 volt blanket and when I get back into my trailer I will just start both of them to get the bed warm and then crawl in after making dinner. Once I get into the blankets using the heating blanket I am usually warmed up. The timer is a great benefit.

Thanks

Russ

We also use the Electro Warmth 12 Volt DC Bunk Pad. They average about 3 Amps of DC power.

Electro Warmth 12v. Bunk Pads
Additional Information

As "Alffink" said, Electro Warmth is now only making the (36" x 60") 12 volt bunk warmers. We placed the Electro Warmth Bunk Warmer on top of the sheets for display purpose at the ORCC Outdoor Days Event. We use the bunk warmer on a full size bed, if you turn the bunk warmer sideways and pin it to the mattress (About shoulder height down to cover your torso area) and then make your bed with fitted/regular sheets and covers. The single bunk warmer still works great.

If the bunk warmer uses 3A of power, then it's like running a fantastic fan all night on high. The fan lasts the weekend on a 120A deep cycle battery if I make sure I don't leave it on during the day.

We usually turn the bunk warmer on high for about 30 minutes before we turn in for the night, then we turn it down to low.
