Hi Matt,

The idea was to have an almost queen-size bunk to hold 3 kids, but still have a counter/galley area.

So the bunk slides forward out of the way of the galley when the galley is in use, then slides back so that the galley space can be used as increased legroom for the kids when the bunk is in that position.

The concept was developed in this 'members designs' thread:

and the drawings were designed by Mike S., who originally designed the Weekender.

There are other builds on the site where people have used a shelf, also where people have used a fixed bunk. This was just a new idea to make dual-purpose use of limited space.

its a good idea, my only concearn would be you are using the gallery and then want to eat at a table in the TD, you have to slide the bed out of the way ( over the gallery that you are using ) if you see what i mean

you could use piano hinge to fold the bed out of the way and not intrude into the gallery

just thinking out out loud to be honest

I doubt that you're painting this weekend, with all the rain you've been having. Since you are on a hillside, you will probably remain high and dry (as long as you stay inside). Maybe the weather is giving you a chance for a well-deserved rest and to spend some quality time indoors with those cute kids and your wife. If so, don't feel guilty about it!

I think using a piano-hinge to fold the bed would be a good idea, too. I believe I saw another camper on this site that did have a fold-out bed. I think I saw one that used hammocks for the kids, too. Several that had a shelf bed. There have been a lot of different ideas, I think I have the first sliding bunk. One of the compromises of this solution is that I will not be able to use the bunk and the galley simultaneously. I think discussing the different options, 'thinking out loud', as you put it, is one of the great things about a group like ours. I appreciate the discourse and the ideas!

I doubt that you're painting this weekend, with all the rain you've been having.

Saturday was a beautiful day, as it turned out, we had company come in from out-of-town for the weekend and visited Chimney Rock State Park on Saturday! Spectacular view from the top, there is an elevator that takes you up. Today was overcast, a little rain, then turned chilly in the afternoon.

But didn't get any painting done this weekend - Current hope for next weekend!

Hey Gang,

Happy Halloween! Spent the day painting the exterior with Uniflex, got about 3/4 of it covered (without the doors) using about 1/2 gallon, will need to finish it another weekend, and will need a 2nd coat.







It has a nice texture from the roller.

More or less as I expected, this is smelly, sticky paint, but looks nice when it it rolled on.

I did not anticipate the problem of several the bugs/gnats flying into it (painting outside), I will need to figure out how to get them cleaned off, as best I can.

Took less paint than I anticipated to get what I got done, although as I posted above, will need a 2nd coat, and I also will need to do the doors and detail work.

Wish I could've gotten more of it done, but made progress, anyway.

I think I've read here, on the forum, that you wait for the paint to dry and then scrape the bugs off with the edge of a credit card or spatula or something like that.

Hey Gang,

Worked on the camper some today, first time since before Christmas. After all the recent snow/rain, it was beautiful today. Nothing too exciting, I got the CPES on the doors. It felt good to be back down in the garage working on it. Will keep you posted!

Good to hear from you, Alfred! Glad you're back at it. It's hard to work in the garage in the cold, dark winter; plus, all the holidays....Soon, we have to start on income tax filing, etc.... It's good to keep those trailer-building muscles limber in between all that.
