I never got around to posting here, so...
I'm Mark, a Jeeper from the St Louis area. I've been researching teardrops for years. At one point, I started rebuilding a 1967 Serro Scottie, but had to let that project go. Now it's 6-7 years later and my teenagers are just about out of the house... (which means I don't have to build a trailer for 4 anymore)
Jeep: I've been building my TJ over the years, and essentially went overboard with the modifications to where it wasn't very good on the street (but ROCKED of-road). Well last year, I decided that I missed being able to drive on the road, topless/doorless. So I took that project in a new dirt-rection. Combining good off-road manners with street-ability. Now the finish line is in sight...
During this time, we had another baby boy. My family loves camping, but a tent is getting old. 'Setting up' tents isn't too bad... It's 'tearing down' tents that stinks. Pretty soon, I won't have help with camp chores like that... Hooking up a trailer should be easier. I don't want a huge RV neither because you lose touch with nature (the reason why you camp in the first place). The other day, my wife mentions to me that I should start looking for another little trailer. And my mind starts dreaming of teardrops again...
Which brings me to my build plans: I'm looking for a little bit sturdier trailer, wide enough to fit a queen-size air mattress. My TD will mostly live in a campground, or the parking lot of an off-road park. I don't plan to haul this thing over the Rubicon, but it may see some 'off-the-beaten-path' campsights. So it's gotta be built a little stout. And lastly, it needs room to haul tools and extra Jeep parts. If I could incorporate Jeep parts into the build, that would give me spares to get home after a wheelin' trip. I definately want the same bolt pattern on the wheels (5 on 4 1/2)... maybe a gas can holder... tank for compressed air (jeep has on-board air, but not enough capacity to run air tools)... etc.
If you got any ideas, or suggestions for me, I'm open to all! Post some links, etc!
