Thank You Veterans

Postby mandy » Wed Nov 10, 2010 12:21 pm

I want to Thank All You Veterans for Your Service. If you or some one you know is either serving or has served in military put their picture in your avitar. I have my Dad as my Avaitar he served in the Korean (War). Thank You Dad. :applause:

My cousin, Martin Loving, was killed in Viet Nam flying a Lockheed YO-3a Quiet Star. He's a hero of mine.

Veteran Week

Postby queeniejeanne » Wed Nov 10, 2010 2:50 pm

This is Veterans Week in Branson Missouri....we honor them all year long, but this is a special week...there are free shows, free breakfasts, free get togethers at different locations all over our city, & signup areas where you can find your old buddies from the wars..on the 11th at 11 AM. .Our Veteran's Day Parade is the largest and most attended in the whole USA. :beautiful: ..boy how great is that? We usually have the remaining Tuskegee Airmen, the remaining Code Talkers and lots of WWII. Think we lost our last WWI here locally, My granddad was a WWI and got a medal from the president about 15 years ago. Come see us and thank lots of them in person.

:wine: Here's to all men and women who do, have, and did keep our country safe and strong. Thank you.....Queenie Jeanne and Dennis

My father, his (recently deceased) brother Joe , and 3 of my cousins were all Marines... in peacetime, but they served nonetheless. One of my cousins had orders sending him to Beirut days before the airport bombing in 1984(?).

Before I lost my house in the divorce, my children & I flew my MIA-POW flag every Memorial day & every Veterans day.

The history major in me can't help it...
Veterans Day (no apostrophe) was originally created in the 1920s, to honor those who had fought in WWI (originally known as Armistice Day, it falls on 11 Nov, the date of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, ending WWI - which America never signed. US made a separate peace with Germany later), and expanded in 1954(?) to honor all those who had served, in war or peace.
Memorial Day, on the other hand, dates from reconstruction, as an occasion to honor those who died fighting the Civil War. Not absolutely certain when it was expanded to honor all war dead, but that's what we have today.

Ok, there you go.

The woman in my AV is my wife, who retired from the NV Army National Guard after 22 years of military service in Jan of 2008. We met and married in 1988 at Ft.Campbell, KY where we were both on active duty as helicopter mechanics. I only stayed in until 1992, just after Desert Storm. She stayed on active duty for 2 more tours because they kept offering her nice duty stations to reenlist. We moved here in 1998 when she finally left active duty, and she joined the NV National Guard full time.

People have a hard time believing my sweet little wife is in reality a retired Sergeant First Class - until she raises the timbre of her voice and uses that authoritative firmness on them that removes any doubt.

We both have long standing military traditions in our families - back to the Revolutionary War on both her side and mine. As a result, we both have a very deep appreciation for the sacrifice every Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, and Coast Guardsman makes, whether they be active duty, reservist, or National Guardsman.

Thank you to all of my Brothers and Sisters in Arms; past, present, and future. Know that you are loved, honored, and respected.

That's me in the avatar. I was in the USAF from April of 1968 thru November of 1976. Only two years of that time was stateside. I'm proud to have served and more than a little disturbed that mine is the only house on the street with a United States flag out front. The house across the street is flying a Texas Aggie flag but no US flags in sight other than my own.

This picture is pretty old, but my two nephews and my Daughter.

The Marine served in Iraq.
The Sailor is offshore somewhere close to the action.
And the Air Force gal and her (not shown) husband are doing some kind of TS. work here in the states.

My Dad served in the army in Korea, but I don't have a military picture handy.

We're very proud of them, and of all the men and women who risk it all for us.

Thanks for starting this thread Mandy. I'm afraid I don't have many photo's of myself for the avitar, but I was much younger during the Viet Nam era. My step-brother was also in the Navy. My Dad was Navy, and my Stepdad was in the Marines on Midway. Both in WWII.
Plan to spend Vetrans Day taking my tear on her first camping trip.

THANKS TO ALL OUR VETS (living or past)

My Dad was in the NAVY in the late 1920 (he said he joine since he wanted to get a pair of shoes  ) And also served in WWII in the ARMY- he was the "OLD MAN" when he was drafted. He had some stories - but mostly didn't talk too much about it.

Although I didn't serve I worked for Grumman during the Viet War and was in Logistics- building aircraft support.

THUMBS UP!! AND THANK YOU
