Thinking about #2...a caboose?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

The "box in a box" idea was what I was going for. I was thinking about lipped edges that would prevent water intrusion when closed. Mine will be above the kitchen, not above a shower so I do not want ANY water getting through.

The windows could be problematic though.

Lipped edges !!! Oh Yeah !!! Cool !!! 8)

Kitchen ??? Stand up kitchen... ??? Hmmm... about 4'X4' ... that's pretty good size eh ? Power vent on top would act as an exhaust fan !!!

How about a pneumatic seal on your slider made out of bike inter-tube.
Glue a couple together and put in a slot, make so you have a little clearance to slide. When in the up position pump it up, when down the overhang seals it.

You could also add weatherstripping on the top surface of the roof lip so that it compresses once the cupola is lowered. Some rubber or other seal fastened to the lip should do the trick.

Another idea: build the pop-up with a slight taper. Then when raised it will compress the seal.

Fireplace in a renovated caboose. I have a little (2' high) stove like that that would look great in a caboose trailer if I could make it fit. (non functioning, just show)

Thinking about cabooses, I am reminded of a famous restaurant and bar in Dryden, NY, called "The Boxcar." It was founded by Garry Morfit in about 1965. He is the son of Garry Moore, the TV entertainer.

In those days, we had many interesting watering holes and eateries in and around Ithaca.

The idea was appropriated by other Cornell Hotel School alums and became the successful Victoria Station chain (now gone, alas).

Are you going to have a rounded roof or a flat roof? The rounded roof would be easer to seal than a flat roof, also you could utilize screw jacks off a popup to raise and lower the roof. Let me think about a leak proof seal when it is raised...

I was thinking more of a ronded roof. The part (or box) that the cupola would slide down onto would be flat.
