Another golden oldie...It is ALIIIIVE

A good camper buddy/neighbor of mine, Dean Bessom was cleaning his garage today and told me that he had found something I could have. He had mentioned this stove 2 years ago, but thought he didn't have it anymore. Found a box in the rafters and it was in it. Dean isn't into any gas pressure stuff and really doesn't care for how bright the lanterns are and makes it known...hee hee.

I posted over on the Coleman forum for input, but I believe it to be a late 20's AGM KampKook model 4. Really a different set up on the fuel tank, my first side mount, external pump, nice and straight with an unbroken cast iron grate in it. I'm getting backlogged in great projects that I'm itchin' to get going on...wish the weather would warm up, even got the wrench with it. Doug

I had the museum open for a while. All loaded up in the living room! I gave a number of the lanterns and a load of stoves away to others, just kept the specific ones I wanted. These last 2 stoves will take me some time to do up right, but will make a great addition to the museum. They are keepers for me. A lantern, restored and running is a great raffle gift at a TD gathering! Doug

Thanks Kevin...that's where I got the info on it so far. From what I've learned over on the Coleman forum, the cast grates don't necessarily determine age. The cast ones were on the deluxe models. The economy ones had the wire grates. Would be nice to have some production numbers on them all....but I'd like to think that the Deluxe ones were the "hot" set-up! I need to get a 40 Ford repro casting of the "Deluxe" like I have on the Voyager to stick on one....  Doug

Looks similar, but my ID tag is clearly stamped with a single 4 and I don't have a built in pump on it, a valve has a screw on pump + have 2 valves on the fuel....1 I am assuming is for the pre-heat. Doug

I dug into this stove this last week, have a lot of it stripped of paint and have gone through the valves on it. Once you get into the really older stuff, like from the 20's...it's amazing how absolutely different they can be from each other.

At the time, the manufacturers were just getting going on a lot of the different lighting methods, pump technologies, fuel pickups etc...Heck! even the folding legs and wing supports are very different from model to model, as well as the aux burner operation.

My favorite is the 1/8" dia. screen in a 1/4" long capsule on the end of the fuel pickup rod, which is a very small brass tube 14" long, one bend or kink and you're sunk. To flush the tank on it, I had to attach a syringe to a piece of tubing and suck the crud and cleaner out. It also has the old lead type of gasket on the fuel filler.

It's all new turf on each one it seems, and trying to "wrench" something that doesn't want to go...can create issues that you'd never recover from and render it useless. I'm just hoping that the carb cleaner in the generator does the trick. It doesn't want to budge. I'm not going to push my luck....that might be a tough generator to find.

On the + side....thanks to Jeremy for the artwork and Scott for reproducing the label for me on the fuel tank. Doug

Got it all back together...waiting on the decal for the interior of the lid. Thanks to Jeremy and Scott for their assistance on the fuel tank label, looks great! I'm going to wait a bit before I build a fire in it, give the paint some more cure time in case I have any fuel spill issues that could soften up the finish. Doug
